mostly it is breathing problems because of the short snouts...lil dogs in general can have knee and heart problems too...but if you do find a good breeder and spend more than the average amount on one they can be very healthy dogs...or you can adopt an adult or young adult from a rescue org. and by 1 year most congenital health problems will show up....try petfinder.com or petharbor.com i also suggest calling a local vet or two and asking what kind of health issues they see in there pugs..i hope you find the perfect dog ...you mom is good for making you do research on a pet... if more did we may have less pets in rescue leagues and dieing in shelters/pounds

What???? How could anyone predict what medical problems your dog could have or how much it would cost to treat??? Stop looking for problems, feed your dog good dry, not supermarket junk, make sure she has all her vaccinations, and take good care of her - that's what you should be thinking about, not possible medical problems. You have a mutt - there is not way to even take a guess at what genetic problems she may have inherited since no one can say which breed she takes after most.

I am trying to let pug owners (and prospective pug owners) about a simple, inexpensive surgery to remove part of the elongated palate. We just had this done to our pug when she was in for another surgery, it was very simple (they did it with a laser). Now she is so quiet, snorts and snores WAY less. I wish we had known to do it sooner!
Our pug also has a condition called luxating patella (serious joint problem).
If you are really concerned about health issues, I would recommend getting a mutt instead of a purebred!

They are prone to knee problems, breathing problems, skin problems, eye problems, kidney problems . If you want to get a Pug get one from a responsible breeder.By doing so you will reduce the risk of many of those problems.

Eye problems due to their flat face. Breathing problems, especially in the summer. And you have to clean their face everyday so that you get dirt out of the folds in their face.
