Tell her you would like to take her out and get to know her better if she is into it, but let her know that if she's taken or not interested, it's o.k.

Just say hey, what's up?
Start with casual stuff like how the weather is and what's been going on in school and all that stuff.
Try to find a common interest as soon as possible. This will give you something more definite to talk about.

If you're in school, just say hey did you do this or that or something
And ask "so what did you do this weekend?" chances are if she has a boyfriend she will spend time with him on that weekend and she will mention that to you.
