Watch Monster in Law - to get some ideas. My parents in law lived with us for 6 months. I was so stressed I actually had a miscarriage. It was horrible. They don't even speak English so I couldn't understand a word anyone was saying and they cooked stinky salted fishy stuff (I'm allergic to fish) and the house stank. My father in law always "missed" the toilet and never shut the lid on it. They freaked out if I sprayed cleaner and said I was always cleaning up after them (because everything stank). They loved watching television so loud because they are deaf and the kids couldn't get to sleep at night. Then on my nights when I'd want to watch my favourite shows they'd watch their boring things. My husband finally talked to them for me and they moved out. THANK GOODNESS - I actually quite like them now - but when they are in the house - no thanks!
Good luck

Your husband's mother - your husband's problem. Get him to deal with it (nicely please) then take yourself on a short holiday and tell him you expect her to be gone by the time you come back. AND leave a really nice, fancy wrapped "Good Bye" present with him to give to her as she leaves.

As soon as she is gone I suggest you convert any and all spare bedrooms to other functions ( studies, family rooms, etc) and get rid of anything at all that can be used as a guest bed.

You can switch things back later on if you still want guest accommodation for "welcome" guests,.

I suggest you make sure you book an appointment an hour or two after she is scheduled to arrive - that way you have to be somewhere and she'll be forced to leave, but no hard feelings.

It's not your job to get her to go home. Let your spouse deal with this problem.
