Yes, find the book 'Inside Delta Force' by Eric Haney, its a good read, and the TV series "The Unit" is (very very) roughly based on it.

Delta Force as a name does not exist, however there are several types of units that are real doing what you are familiar with as a Delta Force.

Used to be from 1893 to 1946, was cancelled to overcome suspicion and alerts in senate, they wanted to know about comunism so action was not shown until released into library. They went into Italy twice and once in Germany, so I know. They released prisoners and effected rescues and scale murders. Much apreciated after canceled. Everyone likes a hero.

Yes and you have to able to score ten points higher in each PT Test area to qualify. You also have to like parachutes.
