Everyone has different beliefs on this. The most common is that the wedding band goes on first (closest to the palm) then the engagement ring. This is (supposedly) because the vein in the left ring finger is the most direct to the heart. On the wedding day, the bride wears the engagement ring on her right hand so the wedding ring can go on first, and it is not supposed to be taken off.
I have heard of some customs wearing the rings on the right hand, or the engagement ring first because that was the first sign from the husband.... It's all up to personal preference, really.

Which ever real right for you.
I read that you put the wedding ring on first for 2 reasons.
1. because it is closest to your heart and
2. because the engagement ring acts as a "guard" so the wedding ring doesn't fall off. I know the engagement ring is the more expensive one normally but the wedding ring has more symbolic worth.
But like I said I have seen people wear it both ways. Which ever you are more comfortable with.
Normally once you get an eternity ring you wear wedding band, engagement ring then eternity so it completes the set

Once you are married, you should normally wear the wedding ring on the lower (hand) end of the finger, and the engagement ring on top (closer to the knuckle). This is tradition.
However, there can be good reasons for not doing this; for example, if you have lost a ring size, you may find that the wedding ring hold the engagement ring snuggly and securely when worn further out.
Never let tradition over-ride common sense.

I think the wedding band goes on first then put the engagement ring over it. That is how everyone I know wears it and I have always known it to go.

Ok, I just asked MY mum and she said, you get your engagment ring first (obviously) and on the wedding day you take your engagement ring off and put the wedding ring on only and then after its all over you put the engagment ring back on. Your sister is correct. :)
hope this helped.

Either way. Both rings represent the same thing...but at different stages in the relationship. The engagement ring not only represents that you or obviouslly taken but the never ending circle that you and your fiance are going to have when you get married. Adding the band confirms the the never ending circle that you love has no beginning and no end. That is why it does not matter which way it goes or weather you just were your wedding band.

Your wedding ring goes closer to your heart. Take your engagment ring off & place it on your right hand right before your wedding, then slip it back on with your band after the ceremony.

wedding ring first. when you get married you should put your engagement ring on your right ring finger for the wedding. Your husband will then put on your wedding ring followed by your engagement ring. Therefore that's the way you should always wear it

The tradition is that at your wedding ceremony you take off your engagement ring for the brief period. That way when he places your wedding band on, it would go on first. The theory behind it is that you have your wedding band closer to your heart. Immediately after the ceremony you place your engagement ring back on. That way for your pictures you will have on both rings.
