God is not a God of restrictions it is not that he requires human worship. He would still be God whether or not we acknowledged him. It is however, our responsibility upon realising there is an awesome God who loves us to thank him and what better way to do that than to praise him and love him?!! When kids realise their parents provide them with love and security they are thankful and make all these trinklets and drawings to show their appreciation and its wonderful when children think of you as the 'greatest mom or dad in the world'!!

I love this. I don't feel it is a requirement at all. It's a choice, and if it was a requirement to love a parent, why would parents even care about whether their kids loved them???
I really think people could get a better perspective on God if they used the parent/child analogy more.

You have it all wrong. God does not need us, we need him. He loves us is why he wants us to worship him and do what we are supposed to do. If we do this then we will have eternal life with him and always be happy. Notice in the beginning before man sinned he did not require alot of worship stuff. He was content to just walk with Adam in the evening time. He is so wonderful and loving. How could you have him so wrong?

This isn't for His sake, it is for ours. We worship, that's what we do. You can choose who you worship but you cant choose whether or not to worship because by design we do. When we worship Him in spirit and truth, we can help to avoid a great deal of self inflicted pain. Of all the things that I repeatedly felt a strong urge from God to either avoid or refrain from, these were things that end up causing me a great deal of trouble and pain.

No I just expect my kid to do as I say when I say no ands ifs or buts. But the worship part not so much. And certainly not the incense that stuff stinks and reminds me of hippies.

A universe built by a creative being would be a lonely place without someone, also creative, with free will, to share it with.
Isaiah 65:18 But be glad and rejoice forever in what I will create, for I will create Jerusalem to be a delight and its people a joy. 19 I will rejoice over Jerusalem and take delight in my people

What does God have to do with Parents? That is a terrible comparison... God gave you live, food, health... did your parents give you all those things, they are humans like you or can they bring the sun every morning for us, or maybe the stars at night...
Don't you thank Him for that?

If I told them to, they better respect that.
But I would never tell them to do something that was not good for them.
I think God works in the same way. My children might not understand why I ask them to do something, but it's always for their benefit. That's why we should obey God's word even if we don't understand why. He knows more than we do.

The reason God tells us to worship him is not for his benefit, but for ours. Because the closer we are to God, the better off we are. We need to work to cultivate that relationship.

Okay - I think it's like this. He created us for fellowship - He loves us. He doesn't require it - but He does love it when we love him back.
If you are a parent, esp. one of teens, you appreciate it when your kids take time out of their busy schedule and want to spend time with you! I know I do.
