Good Question...
Wikipedia says' that " Democracy (literally "rule by the people", from the Greek δημοκρατία-demokratia demos, "people," and kratos, "rule") is a form of government. Today, the term democracy is often used to refer to liberal democracy, but there is no necessity that democracies are liberal (i.e. respectful of individual liberty and property) and in some cases may be illiberal democracies. There are many other varieties and the methods used to govern differ. While the term democracy is typically used in the context of a political state, the principles are also applicable to other bodies such as intergovernmental organizations, non-governmental organizations, labour unions, industry trade groups, professional bodies, and learned societies."

So in theory it is every bunch of idiot available from all parts of the political spectrum, making sure that no extreme view point makes it into law, and the result is the compromise of ideas, - a proverbial happy medium.

Democratization is literally to dumb down politics to make it acceptable to the majority. In America, this is not all-political parties, as it is impossible to be left wing since the 1950’s McCarthy witch-hunts. So what you have is a middle and right wing democracy - or would have if the Electoral colleges did not exist, that ensure the first past the post get the majority of the votes - not the public. Also the system is geared up so that you have to be a billionaire to afford to stand for office, or in the pockets of big industries like tobacco, arms, chemicals and steel.

Government of the people, by the people, and for the people. All the rest is commentary.
