They went out, not knowing what the future would hold, and having no idea what type of creature might show up in their nets.
Their up and coming world wide ministry would operate much the same way.
The only difference is that they would become fishers of men.

They had been out there all night and didn't catch a thing. When He asks them to cast out in the deep. They were trusting in Him to provide. He proved them that He was faithful.

Jesus showed them that he could cause miracles to happen because he was given power from the Most High God, the Father, the One Who Jesus said, "the Father is Greater than I".
He changed water to wine (first miracle), healed lepers, raised the dead, cured all sicknesses of all sorts and calmed the stormy sea--these were forerunners of the life to come in our near future here on earth. Otherwise, why would God create the earth?
He says Himself that He created it to be lived on, not to die. But sin entered through one man and now through one man we can be saved and receive everlasting life--a miracle from our Loving Creator, Yahweh God.

Nothing.
Every story needs to have the stage set for the story line in order for it to make sense.
Allegory is meaningless in interpreting the Bible.
Martin Luther, reading the commentaries of the early church, said that the allegories of Gregory, St. Francis, and Augustine "Were not worth so much dirt;" except "dirt' was not the word Luther used!

Yes. Jesus was talking about being fishers of men. What is the deep? Sometimes I'd swear it was this board.

I believe that this is a special invitation to the vocation to follow Christ and, in particular, to follow him in the priesthood and the consecrated life.

I'm no Biblical scholar - but where does it say that? Thanks. I only know of Christ's telling them to cast the net on the right side of the boat.
