Hi there...the firefighter departments generally will not put themselves at risk to rescue animals on telephone polls or trees as part of the reason and there are other reasons such as not wanting to dedicate their resources for this type of rescue depending on the region. It's truly dependent and up to the fire department.

Most people do not realize that a lot of tree arbour services may be willing to help if they are not busy with other jobs as they have the equipment to climb or reach high places.

I was a firefighter in the US Air Force for 6 years (99-05) and responded to emergencies both on base and off base in the surrounding community.

The reason we don't get cats out of trees or off telephone poles is because firefighters have been injured doing this, it's not our job, and the cat will always come down on its own.

Have you ever seen a cat skeleton on a telephone pole? Neither have I.

So the bottom line is, the risks outweigh the reward.

Just be patient and kitty will come down. :)

Did you call and ask them? Was it your cat? If so, why is it outside to get into this kind of mess. I am a firm believer that you should keep your animals on your own property where they are protected from other people and animals. I am not trying to be mean here but it just frustrates me when people let their animals roam free. It just seems dangerous for the animals. Your animals may have their shots and things, but what if they run into a rabid squirrel or something.

I think the fire department have better things to do. That cat will come down when it's ready.

I'm guessing that they do not want to mess around near the lines. If you were the one that called them, try calling the electric company to try to get it down.

I'd try calling your local Animal Control. If they can't help, they should know who can.
