Any type of dog can be trained for police work. It has less to do with breed and more to do with temperment. Dogs that show a high prey drive work well as explosive and drug dogs, but just about any dog could possibly be a police dog. A lot of times the police will go to local shelters and to rescue groups in search of dogs that meet the requirements.

No, that's a fable. As ludicrous as that's, a lasting one. canines are knowledgeable to hunt for drugs by using associating the scent of the medicine with a regular toy. that's a interest. The canines locate the fragrance and their reward is a interest with their regular toy and handler. some use Kongs, others use tug toys, in spite of the canines incredibly likes. I particularly have considered nutrition detection canines for the airport knowledgeable with treats. A canines with excessivecontinual will artwork very difficult to locate something for the advantages of their toy. no ought to get him addicted to drugs. think of what an 80 5 lb GSD could be like on cocaine. it might fry their brains and kill them, no longer very functional for detection.

Well as you know, German Sheperds are the most common ones. But I've seen different breeds like Dobermans, Rotties, and Pittbulls. I guess it depends what they need them for. Like a Beagle would be a good cadaver dog and good for the DEA to search for drugs since they are highly popular and well known for their highly sensitive sense of smell. *shrugs*.
