Some do.

If read word for word then it might appear too bloody and hateful.
It must be interpreted by a mullah.

Fight and slay the pagans (infidels) wherever ye find them, and seize them,
beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem of war." - Sura 9:5

with them." - Sura 9:73

Oh yeah? Muslims DO read the Quran for themselves....What is it that you're trying to prove, buddy? That we don't know what's in the Quran? Oh really? It's actually many non-Muslims who get verses from the Quran OUT OF CONTEXT and acccuse the Quran of being violent! Ahhh.... How sad for you all!
But if you mean how Muslims sometimes listen to one person read it to us, well, what's wrong with that? It's VVVVERY beautifully read (by those with beautiful voices) so we just find it beautiful. But we STILL read it ourselves too!!!!!
Muslims are SUPPOSED to read the Quran for guidance and for UNDERSTANDING; Quran does NOT support violence (as I think you think that!), and most Muslims know this. Only the unfaithful Muslims don't know this. Whose fault is that? ALL Muslims'??? Nooooo!!!! MOST Muslims are good, honest, and peaceful people, but the media only shows you the bad Muslims. Ahhh....!!!!

I do and I just recently came upon the story of Joseph; I am sure you are familiar with it and how his father worked hard to protect him from his jealous older brothers, how they caused him to suffer and in the end he became a king.
You know something I was persecuted by people of my faith, I had a dream about the moon and stars bowing to me. Years later those who had persecuted me apologized.
There's a wonderful chapter called the cave; it's similar perhaps to Daniel and the Lions Den. Beautiful story.

we do read the Quran, i think what you're getting at is:Why don't we interpret it like non-muslims? Most muslims understand the Quran, so they live in peace with everyone, some don't understand it or use it for their own political gain, luckily they are a small number of the 1.3 billion muslims. Non-muslims also don't understand the Quran, so they interpret it the same way.

Muslims can read it for themselves but i think it's in tradition that someone reads it out loud like in a church you might have someone read it up the front for the congregation. I think it is also/possbily because they feel that, that one person has the authority as such to read it out.

They have and it would seem, much like Christians with the bible, they have misinterpreted and misconstrued everything. I hope God has a sense of humor or we are all in trouble.
