Since meditation is partly used to quiet your mind, it seems that it could be of benefit to someone with obsessive compulsive disorder. Anyone know anything about this?

A very sound theory. The problem would lie, as I see it, with the fact that those with OCD often can't concentrate on something that focused. OCD behaviour is often automatic, so anything short of reaching a complete meditative state would in my opinion be unlikely to work. Worth a try and let us all know what the results are!

Yes it can.
Although Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a better bet. Why you ask? because it actually works at changing the persons views, habits, ect. medication is a mask and should only be used in more moderate to extreme cases of ocd, the side affects can be brutal as well

yes, a group of medications called SSRI's nca help with OCD. I recently started Lexapro for my OCD (it has only been a week and a half so far) and I also see a therapist. Seeing a therapist and talking about things along with the help of medication helps many people. i have been suffering with OCD for about 6 years now and i just started to get help and I feel a little bit better already and its only been a little over a week. hope this helps :)

Doesn't help me with my OCD at all. I don't feel like my mind is chaotic because of my OCD, it's because I'm stressed. That's what I use the meditation for. An exercise I was told to try to help with my OCD was to leave things alone (like not rearrange items, shut all doors, clean excessively) even though it would irritate me beyond belief. It does help some.

Yes, in fact any type of relaxation and/or exercise is wonderful for Anxiety disorders! OCD is just one. I suggest non drug therapy first then going for drugs only if you have to as a last resort. It is so much better for the body and sometimes even more effective!

They can absolutly help with OCD, you just have to find the right one for you.
Call a pharmasist if you want the names of the drugs used so you can research them yourself, then call your doctor and see what he says.

yes, it absolutely can. A psychiatrist is who prescribes medication for mental health. They would be able to find the best meds for someone with OCD who wanted medication for that. The primary care physician should be able to make that referral.
