Forget what people are saying about not wearing black. There is nothing wrong with wearing a black dress to a wedding. Hello, people, it's 2007. No one is going to think negatively of you if you do. It also does not signify that you are against the marriage.
"The Little Black Dress" is a staple in many modern woman's closets, most likely people will just assume that you choice it b/c it is a basic color, basic style, formal dress. Most wedding etiquette books/websites say that a black dress for an afternoon ceremony/ evening wedding is fine.
I wore a black dress to a wedding, and my date was also the best man. No one said anything to me; if fact, a saw a few other guests sporting black also. I don't know, maybe it's a Northeast (we're I'm from) thing; but wearing a black dress to a wedding is perfect normal and acceptable.

if you wear brown your not going to look like your trying to be part of the wedding party. I am sure there will be more than you that will be wearing that colour, as long as your dress isnt the excate same as the wedding parties you will be okay. A knee- length coctail dress will look great. I would go for a softer colour of brown, not too dark. black would be to dark for the afternoon you want to make a softer look not so bold. So i would go with light brown.

I would do the knee length dress, classy and appropriate. Maybe you could find a teal colored dress. That would look beautiful with the chocolate brown your boyfriend will be wearing. That way, you will look great in pictures with him, but will not look like you are in the wedding party. A shawl would add the perfect touch. Have fun!

Black is fine, remember it is 2007 now! Even brown would be fine if you don't do cream accents. You could do brown and hot pink, those are pretty colors together. Don't stress too much about it. Just look your best so you feel your best and have fun. My wedding is in Feb. our colors are chocolate brown and the lightest of light pink.

Going to the ceremony means buying gifts. Gifts can be expensive. To save money wear a toga. After a couple of events nobody invites you back and you save bucks. The sooner you start the more saved cash you can put into a retirement account.

Black would be lovely. I love the wraps they have these days. I agree not to look like the wedding party, that is disrespectful and tacky in my opinion. What you have "picked out" sounds very appropriate.
I was married in March and my best girlfriend wore a black beaded pant suit and she was stunning. (Our kids were our 'wedding party'). I was married at 3pm. I actually had one lady wear sweats.... tacky but I didn't care... I was glad she came. The most important thing is comfort.
Good Luck and Have FUN!!!!

my sister had a brown and teal colored wedding and alot of the guests wore brown. there isn't really a rule about guests wearing the wedding colors. however black is kind of a no no. i wore a black slinky skirt to the wedding but with a silver top. however it was an after 5 affair. as for 2pm i would opt for brown, go for it. and if you arent daring enough then perhaps other winter colors. remember it's winter so the dark colors are "ok". just dont go in ALL black. have fun!!

no, i wouldn't do black, even if the dress is festive, some may think that you would rather not have the bride and groom be married. i think a brown would be ok, i mean it isn't like your trying to be apart of the party, but your boyfriend being the best man and all, ull want to match him a bit for pictures and such. and the wrap sounds good too, maybe a cream wrap or goldish color. it sounds pretty.

OMG!
NEVER wear black to a wedding!
It's almost as bad as wearing white! Black is associated with funerals; therefore, many associate wearing that color to a wedding with wishing the marriage to fail! It's just poor taste.
I would avoid the colors of the wedding party. Otherwise, go with what makes you look and feel fabulous! Good winter colors as red, rust, deep purple, dark green, etc. Have fun!
