To "fear the Lord" does not mean to actually "fear" Him. God told us to fear Him: in other words to revere and respect Him and believe that He, and He alone is the one true God.

To acknowledge His authority and live as if He can exercise total control over you and everything else and deserves your obedience.

I fear the police and the government, not in the sense that I worry they will bust into my house and drag me off, because I haven't done anything to bring this about. But the reason I DON'T do something that would bring this about is because I know that lour aw enforcement and legal system is more than capable of putting the smack down on me if I bring it on myself. I know I could be put in prison for life or even be executed, if it came to that. But nevertheless I'm glad the cops and our government is around, to protect me. You could say it's a "healthy respect."

How much more powerful is God, and utterly good! Not only should we obey because He we cannot escape Him, but because He deserves it from us.

To have a reverence for Him. He is the one who holds our future in His hands. There are people out there that go against Him, and don't care what they do to Him. It is better to respect Him than to think He is nothing. We are living under Grace right now, but before Grace, God's judgment came down. He is love, but He hates sin. He is Holy, and cannot be around sin. When Jesus died on the cross, and took on our sins. God turned His back on Him because He was sin for a short time.

Fearing the Lord means to FEAR HIM. How many times has God tried to intimidate people by threatening them in the scriptures.

Religious people want to make God into an "ALL LOVING & MERCIFUL" being but the scriptures shows us how hateful he can be against "His" creation.

It means that we recognize the power of God. He has power to bless us beyond what we think possible because we seek Him.

And He has the power to cast people away from Himself for eternity because they reject Him as their God.
