I would recommend you take a trip to your local bookstore (i.e., Barnes & Noble, Borders) and compare the wedding planner/organizers they have available. Most large bookstores carry a large selection of planners to choose from. Once you've had the opportunity to compare, you can pick out books that best suit your needs. I choose to purchase a wedding planner that provided both suggestions on wedding planning and an accordian binder to hold all of my contracts and wedding related papers, but I can't recall the name since it was over 4 years ago.

I have two wedding planning books - The Everything Wedding Planner and The Knot Wedding Planner. I like the Knot's checklists better, but I like the more low key approach (and the pockets) in my Everything Wedding Planner. I agree with the people who say go to a big bookstore and look at them. What works for one person, might not work for you. However, if you don't get a wedding planner with pockets, make sure to keep all your receipts in one place :) Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

I have found the planners/organizers that have folders/pockets in them, and places where you can write in your own info, guest addresses to be the most helpful. That way you have a specific place to store all the business cards, receipts, contracts, samples, etc. It really is so much easier to plan a wedding when all the important info is in one spot, no hunting through drawers and boxes. I would get a nice, sturdy binder type organizer. Sure there are tons of planners that are so pretty with lots of pictures, but they tend to not have enough space for your own stuff. The one I have is called the "Simply Stunning Wedding Organizer" by Karen Bussen. I bought ti at Barnes n Noble. It's a 3 ring binder type, with clear folders you can stash pictures, contracts etc in. I like it because it's not too big or heavy, I can take it with me to all my appointments and it a pretty orange color.

I would definately get the Emily Post book on Wedding Ettiquette. Not saying that you should follow the 'rules' but at least you will know which ones you do want to follow and the ones you want to break.
As for a planner / organizer, you would do better getting a regular notebook with your own dividers, etc.

If you're doing a destination wedding and aren't planning on having a lot of family with you, look into vacation resorts - some will give great deals and a free wedding for staying there. In LA you can have weddings on public beaches for free, but you can't control who's there. Here it can be chilly (and a bit windy) on the beach until early summer. If you do it right on the beach in the afternoon you'll want to know where the tide comes in. There's a number of restaurants here that have a private beach, and will let you do the ceremony outside (or overlooking the water) and the reception on the patio or inside.

If you by chance have State Farm as your insurance, they give you a nice wedding planner for free. All I did was get my ring insured and they sent me a complimentary wedding planner.
