I have been to Portugal(three times),Madeira and will soon be going to the Cape Verde islands.The Portuguese people are extremely friendly, even more so if you take the time to learn a few basic words and phrases in their language.As I was travelling away from the more touristy areas of the Algarve,I decided to take a linguaphone course in the language.It opened a whole new dimension.It (in my opinion) is a much nicer language than Spanish (especially the Castillian version with the horrid TH sound,GraTHias,BarTHelona etc.)
You will notice the Portuguese are a more laid-back people,they live like we used to in the 50s and 60s,very hospitable and would share their last meal with you.

I am portuguese so yes I know alot of portuguese people. I am originaly from Lisboa but have been living in the US since I was 12. Portugal is beautiful and so is Spain. Spanish people are so different from hispanic people you will find in the US. Portugal and Spain are right next to eachother so you will find that people from both countries get along pretty well.

I have worked with Portuguese people for 12 years, I find them to be very proud and honest, but they are also human and have there faults, I would like to continue to work and have a laugh with them more so than some of the English that I work with ( I am English ) most of the Portuguese that I work with are from Madeira and very family orientated, but saying that I have been to there party's and they are the best party's ever.

Portugal is beautiful.
Spanish people (I mean Spaniards - not all Spanish-speaking people) are a lot louder than Portuguese.

I know Portugal.
I don't personally know any Portuguese people, but I haven't heard anything bad about them...
I have no preference either way. Neither Spaniards nor Portuguese people bother me.

I preferred SPANISH.. that is my native language and I think is very romantic. But I also want to learn Portuguese I have several friends from Brazil and it sounds cool.
