I've got a daisy in a design on my hip and my star sign in a tribal style on my lower back.
Choose something that means something to you, don't let anyone tell you what to get and don't be influenced but what is deemed 'popular'. Remember it is for life so be cautious and think about it. I've chosen places on my body that allow them to be hidden if need be. Nobody needs to see mine unless I choose.
I haven't regretted mine at all but I have a friend who does because they were high and got a symbol on his back that was part of a brand name. That brand is now no longer cool and he hates it. Unfortunately, it is huge, it covers most of his top back.
Good luck and choose wisely. And don't forget tats are very addictive. After my first tat, it only took me a day to have the urge for my next.

I have one on my lower back. It is an flying eagle in front of a setting sun. Underneath it are the "freebird" lyrics "And this bird you can not change" by Lynard Skynard. I chose it because it describes a part of my personality. I like where it is at because I can hide it or show it off, depending on the situation. And it wont get all stretched out if I decide to have kids one day! Took about 1 1/2 hours.
Also, a little above and in between my shoulder blades but below my neck, I have a sun and moon combo. Its about the size of an apple. If you were to put an apple next to it. I chose this because It represents the the 2 side of me. The side I let you see, and the side it take a long time for me to trust you enough to see. Took about 2 1/2 - 3 hours.
Both of mine were custom done because I refuse to have a tattoo that is already on someone else. My artist listened to what I had in mind and then drew it up for me a few days later.
They really don't hurt that bad. Its more annoying than anything. The outline is the worst part. Once you get to the shading and coloring its nothing. The only time it starts to really hurt is if they've been working on ya for 3 hours or more, and that's only because you are tender by then

(I'm a writer and I must say that opening line is one of the hottest sentences I've ever read . . ."I'm single again, this time with tattoos." Seriously kewl). Anyway, I have no tattoos and never shall. I haven't even the courage to have pierced ears. But, as a nurse, I saw some of the most extraordinary art in the world with some tattoos, especially those elaborate, whole-body ones from Hong Kong. I enjoy most of all those black-black bold tribals that go around a man's bicep. Not to gross anyone out or anything, but one of the grossest things I ever ran across as a nurse was a woman whose husband was dying asked me as her hospice nurse for arrangements to have her husband's arm tattoo removed with the flesh and mounted for display after he was dead. I kid you not. There's actually a company that does that. Eeeeeeew.

I have 4. the 1st one is really small (a diamond shaped star on my hip). I designed all my tats, BTW. 2: a celtic spiral, which is in the shape of 2 S's (my initials)-I'm Irish and have an appreciation for Celtic art. I also use this symbol on a lot of my art work (I paint) It's just below my shoulder on my chest. 3: a vine of morninglories going down my arm, and ending with a star in the vine. (there's a long story that goes with this tat, and I don't have the time or typing skill. lol) 4: a tree on my side (relatively big) again, long story. But yeh. I love all my tats. and I plan to get more in the future. I just have to be careful. They're quite addictive. :)

Both arms, both legs, both feet, penis, belly & chest in total 21. My left arm is in the process of being sleeved, I dont think they are that painful, I reckon around the armpit has to be my most painful, although the nipple felt like it was being done with a hot soldering iron than a tattoo needle.
I am covering up silly youthful tattoo's with the sleeves, I had my first 4 tattoo's done when I was 14 ( 1974 ) & my last time I went in for a $1000.00 of work & needs another $3000.00 to complete it.

I have a fairy tattoo on my leg, and an angel tattoo on my left foot. I got them both because for years I've loved fairies and angels so it just seemed right. the fairy one hurt like hell but i was in a really uncomfortable position. I was more at ease and knew what to expect more with the angel (the fairy was my first tattoo) ...so for some reason it seemed not to hurt as bad. Also every time my tattoo artist would start tattooing I'd tense up really bad..that made my tattoo hurt a lot more. When I got the one on my foot, even when i tensed my leg up, my foot wasnt affected by it at all.

I'm the queen woose with pain, but I always wanted a tattoo. I have one of a horse shoe (equine-obcessed) surrounding a four-leaf clover (born on St. Patty's Day) about 3 inches below my navel and off to the side, nearing the hip bone. I love it. I also have my navel pierced. I work out so hard, that showing off the effects is my own little reward:-P I was 21 when I got mine (about a year and a half ago). It hurt very much, but only lasted 25 minutes. I prefered that over the piercing (my ex, a doctor, numbed me up beforehand; still wouldn't redo it, though)

I have 3... I have a turtle wearing a top hat on my back, the leo symbol on the inside of my ankle and my entire foot done in purple flowers.... The one on my foot was by far the worst and the most worth it. It is a memorial tattoo for my great grandmother. The one on my ankle is a friendship tattoo and the turtle is something i have always wanted, i dont regret any of them

I have 3. One on the inside of my ankle it is a butterfly, one on my lower back that is the Chinese symbol for Faithfulness and one on my foot that is a star inside a horseshoe. I got the butterfly when I was 18 and the reason behind it is I think it symbolizes new beginnings. The Chinese symbol is self-explanatory. The horseshoe I got for my grandpa he was in a horrible car wreck and had brain surgery is scar looks like a horseshoe and the star in it is my favorite symbol. I really wasn't sure why I decided to get these it just popped in my head and I went and did it.

I have two tattoos and I love them. They both mean something to me. A beautiful rose on my upper leg, use to be my grandmothers favorite type of rose. I also have a butterfly on the top of my foot, very meaningful to me. There will be more added to the butterfly. Start small when you get one, see if you can handle the pain. Very painful! Anyone who says it isn't, I think is a liar. Not as bad as childbirth but it's up there. :)
