I am 26 and have been wearing contacts since i was 10. Last year I just started wearing the disposable ones. And even though they are only good for a week or two i can make them stretch out to a month or two. Maybe have her convince him to purchase one package for each eye a 6 month supply. And instead of her wearing them everyday all day have her only wear them to school, and special events, and the rest of the time she will wear glasses, that way one pair of them last longer, this will save money in the long run and for her eyes to adjust better from contacts to glasses. Hope that helps.

She should inquire as to the reason-- financial, punishment, second thoughts?
If she truly has been responsible and finances are the concern, she can suggest changing from a daily lens to a lower-cost frequent-replacement lens as an alternative.
Also, she could point out that many people believe that wearing contact lenses slows down the worsening of nearsightedness (although, that's really with rigid lenses and 12 is probably a little young for those).

If she's been wearing them for about year with no adverse side effects then restricting her out of the blue makes no sense. Allowing her to wear contacts at a young age shows that he has trust in her maturity, withdrawing the contacts means he's also withdrawing the trust. The fact is him giving her the contacts and taking them away on a sudden whim is even worse then not allowing her the contacts in the first place.
Children's maturity level differs if she's been cleaning them and taking care them properly then he owes it to her to give a better reason then her maturity level for withholding them from her.
If I were her I would try to sit him down and ask him why the sudeen change and what she could do to fix the situation.

I wear glasses and personally wouldnt want contact. Your neice is only 12. An adult is 18 years not 12. She should do as her dad says until she is old enough to decide and maybe waiting til she older would do her some good.

A 13 year old girl I know has been wearing contacts for about 4 years. She doesn't wear those disposable ones, they are gas-permeable or something. You change them about once a year, and most of the time it's about $30 for a pair. She should try getting those.

Well, as a person who thinks glasses are cute... I see no reason for her to wear contacts.
Not sure why your brother would change his mind though... that seems odd - I'd ask him, and mention that she's troubled by his changing mind...
Kids need consistency, and saying yes, then no is not healthy for them.
If you don't feel it proper to intervene, she needs to explain to her dad that she's confused and upset about his changing his mind about the contacts. She needs to have good arguments on why she wants the contacts (and nothing about looks - us males get over protective about girls and dating...) - convenience, comfort, playing sports... whatever.
Hopefully he'll listen.

Well the first thing i would say to her is, Do what your Father tells you! Your only 12 and no matter how much more mature you are, you are still a kid! And not just that though, every optomertrist will tell you that her eyes are to young to be wearing such a strong 'lens'. It can actually damage her eyes more.

im thirteen and i have had contacts for a couple of years and my best friends mom is also an optomitrist. usually when you get contacts they have a date for how long you use them for but most of the time depending on the brand you can use them for twice as long. i have VISITINT Focus montly lenses which are one month replacement recomended but i change them about every two months. so just ask your eye doctor about switching to a longer lense

she has proved she is responsible enough for them. i started wearing my contacts at age 11. and for the past 20 years, i have been very careful about and taken care of them. this is probably due to my mother threatening me if i didn't she would not buy me any more. taking care of them became a habit, and so on.
that does not seem fair for her father to do that, but who am i to judge?
