I am a Marine and I was in guam for 4 months for an exercise and I enjoyed it very much. I stayed in base housing and it was nice. It rains a lot there though. The city itself is nice and when it is sunny (you get a lot of those days too) there is a lot to do. Also, Guam is japan's main vacation site so you will see a lot of japanese people there. it is a small island with a lot of beautiful landscape and oceans. If you or he is a diver, it has some of the best diving in the world especially if you want to see a lot of shipwrecks. They have a submarine that takes people down to the bottom to see fish and a wreck. I had a great sober time there and I would not mind going back at all.

Ok, I graduate nursing school next year and I have the same dilemma. My husband is active duty and wants to go overseas for our next duty station. I've researched a lot of bases and I am nervous about it. The websites list needed jobs in the area and jobs that are not needed. Apparently they don't need nurses overseas. I don't know if its because of different licenses or what not. I would just hate to throw all of my hard work away and not be able to use my degree at our new base. The option of getting a GS position is open but competitive. Anyway... if I were you I would check the base websites for newcomer information. I think we picked Kadena, Rammstein, Elmendorf, and Hickam. Alaska and Hawaii are considered overseas assignments even though they are in the US.

Depends on what you want out of your overseas experience. I spent 4 years at RAF Lakenheath, in Suffolk England. It's about 70 miles north of London. You can take about a 45 minute car ride to a tube station such as "Cockfosters" (no - I'm NOT joking) and catch the tubes ALL OVER LONDON for a flat fee. Yes, the weather DOES suck in England - everything you've heard IS absolutely true. But it's a great place. If you let rain prevent you from leaving the house, try an assignment in Turkey at INCIRLIK, AIR BASE. This one is located in Southeastern Turkey, not TOO far from the Mediterranean Sea. The only problem with Turkey is, you cant drive off-base unless you're a certain rank (I forgot what rank it is, but I want to say MSgt or above). However, "The Alley" is right outside the main gate, and has lots of bars, restaurants and shopping, but I'd imagine being permanantly assigned there, you'd tire of the alley quickly. I was there twice on TDYs - 3 months each shot - tent city was AWESOME!! Try Aviano Air Base Italy too....I loved it there....it's not too far from MOST of Europe. HTH!

Not a nursing student but USAF separated member, just some friendly advice ask around in your leadership to find out which bases offer what you want to get out of the air force and if you want to deploy because some over seas stations are deployable. Then if you want to go just for the $$$$$ then look up the cola rates for overseas by region (pacaf, usafe, etc.), hope this helps.

good luck, last i heard the highest cola was iceland.

Well, there are K-2 and Kunsan and Osan airbases in Korea and I think there's a military hospital in Frankfurt, Germany as well. There's also one on Guam, Kadena AB is Okinawa and I think there may even one still in Japan. The airbases in the Philippines have been closed down, so there is no U.S. presence there any more.

I was stationed at the Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, and yes, Hawaii is OVERSEAS! Just look out the window when you're flying over - you can't tell me that it isn't "over" seas!

Wiesbaden, Germany.....Its located right around lots of landmarks. Frankfort is like only 30 minutes away. Its inbetween two big cities wiesbaden and mainz. Mainz is a college town so lots of things you can do on the weekend. Wiesbaden is one of the richest towns in germany. If you go like 20 minutes down one road you will run into about 15 casles in a 1 hour block of road. Lots more stuff cant name it all.
