The real question you need to ask is what speed will the bullet be traveling when it hits the target. The moment the bullet leaves your barrel, it will start slowing down. The key is to have a bullet that is still supersonic when it hits the target. Transitioning to subsonic in flight will cause some instability in the bullet s path and will make it less accurate. Make sure you have a heavy-enough bullet with a large enough powder load to push that bullet all the way to the target and still be supersonic when it get there. Just don t overload and create overpressure situations in your rifle that would make it dangerous or cause undo stress and wear on your equipment.

If the bullet is going the speed of sound it seems like the bullet and the sound would get there at exactly the same time. Not way before as some people might think. The problem with it going the speed of sound (770 MPH at sea level at 70 degrees F or 1129 feet per second) that really isn't that fast and will have a tendency to drop quickly in relation to its forward progress. In other words "AIM HIGH"
