We all go through seasons where we aren't "feeling" like we should. But our faith should not be based on feelings. Our feelings roller coaster along and would destroy our faith, if we allow them to.

Your faith should be based on the facts of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ - His finished work on the cross.

When you realize truly the depth of the love He has for you by doing what He did, then you will worship and not mock.

Walk in His love, by faith, and don't rely on ambiguous feelings. Your faith will be more stable.

I see from some of your replies that many have the same problem. The thing about praying is not place or position or rote prayers IE. Our Father who are in heaven bla bla.
God expects that you would not wast his time therefore the purpose of the prayer is what is important. The less self serving is the prayer, the more likely it will be heard. The answering of the prayer must fit in God's plan before it will be answered. Something generic like the end of all evil will not be answered because evil has a purpose or God would not suffer it's existance so it followes that since we have a hard time knowing His systems, oftentime we pray for the wrong things and of course these are not answered.
IE. A prayer to pass an exam would be ignored. A prayer to pass an exam because it leads to a career in medicin because in your heart you want to help others has a much better chance to catch His ear.
Making sure your prayer is worty is the key.

You are not mocking God. You just need the Holy Spirit's help in finding the right words.

I have that problem too, sometimes, and it seems I just can't find the right words. I know what I want to pray for and who I want to pray for so I stop and just write out a prayer list and then I write a letter to God. That's what I use for my prayer - I read my prayer using my prayer list because the letter is what I really want to say. The Holy Spirit helps me find the words I need for my prayer and God knows that this prayer comes from my heart because He can search my heart and know the truth.

By the way, when I say I read the letter I mean I literally do - sometimes, but most of the time, I use the words that I've written in my letter to Him for my prayer.

Sometimes my prayers start , "Dear Lord, ...".

Pray to God and ask for the strength to get you through this as well and also ask for His Patience and Understanding during these times when the words are hard to find and the feeling isn't what you think it should be. Satan loves to mess things up.

He can't do it as easily if you can find another way to communicate and when you do - even if it is a "prayer letter" to God - that feeling returns.

I hope this answer helps.

Why "mocking" ? when you pray are you asking for things that you know aren't Godly? You should never feel bad for telling God how you feel remember He already Knows that. There isn't anything you could tell Him that He doesn't know. You must just be honest and when you pray it should be like when you talk to your closest friend. Prayer shouldn't be a memorized prayer it should be an intimate conversation with Him. Its like when you open up to someone that actually gets you... that's how it feels when you let it all out. He loves you so much know that always regardless of what you've done or didn't do He loves you. Let Him in, really let Him in. You will be blessed I promise. LOL Be Blessed Always my sister.

Dear Sabrina, I know exactly How you feel, and feelings are okay, but when it comes to determing whehter we are conducting ourselves properly as christians, we should be wuick to examine ourselves by the word of God, instead of trusting our feelings alone, because while feelings are good, they can sometimes be decieving. The best thing to do is to first examine yourself to make sure your in the faith. examine the fruits of the spirit as laid out in galatians. Love joy, peace happiness meekiness ect. are you exhibiting these qualities? How about this, are you feeding on the word daily, and do you see yourself growing in Holiness? if so, the chances are you are soundly saved. I cant say for sure, But if you have repented and trusted in Jesus, then the BIble says that upon that you become a child of God, his spirirt dwells within you, and you have no reason to fear false worship because God desires worship from those who are saved. Remeber also, that the Devil likes nothing more than to be able to steal a chrisitnas Joy and peace and assurance. if this constant feeling of being inadequate Just is pestering and nagging, thats the Devil, and all you have to do to helo with that, is get in the word and stay in the word and when the devil Comes you will be armed with Knowledge. pray, and ask that God would help you to overcome this doubt and that he would lead you into all truth. Most importantly, remeber that God who has begun a good work in you, will continue unitl completion. jesus promised: "I will never leave you, nor forsake you."
God Bless

As a christian I have felt the same way. Most have and are fooling themselves if say different. In our journey of faith there will be times that we feel far away from God. It is not Him pulling away, but we are not opening up to Him. I am trying to say this in a way that is not condemning or hurtful. You are not doing anything wrong; life is intruding into your faith. Although we are usually unaware of it when it happens; it does happen. God knows your heart and loves you very much. Use your private prayer time just talking to HIm. Tell Him about the joys, sorrows, angers, pains, loves and hates in your life. Praise Him, fuss at HIm, :Yell if you want; He understands and will listen. Eventually you will realize that you have a personal friendship with God and the closeness will return. Be yourself; the good, bad and ugly. He already knows all about it and wants you to reveall your true self to HIm. It won't change how He feels about you and you are freer to express yourself with Him. Piety is easy and empty; it takes courage to really believe and practice.

If you have enough time and are still truly interested someone a while ago had a question about why do people go to church and I answered that question. Maybe if you read it you may truly be on your way to the beginning of some knowledge and understanding. Where I attend at we are taught of Jesus and are allowed to ask questions during the lesson. We are also taught how we should pray. I hope this helps who ever truly needs it.

I think you should search your heart ask God to reveal a sin that is holding on to you. That in it's self can cause your relationship with God to seem really distant and week. If that is not the case than when you worship stop looking around ask Holy spirit to show you something. I try to imagine in a picture what the song is describing it seems to make it a whole lot more real.

Jesus spoke of loving others as we love ourselves. Perhaps you need to keep in mind that means you should love and forgive yourself as well. It is difficult to feel His peace and allow His spirit to fill you when your mind is filled with negative emotions. He accepted and encourage children and sinners alike to follow Him.

Choosing the life of a Christian does not mean all the problems and heartaches will disappear. It does mean you do not have to handle alone. The act of prayer can be done any where and any time and in any state of mind. If you aren't feeling the way you think you should acknowledge that in your prayer, ask for the peace you need. Prayer is a way to communion with God and open yourself to healing and find guidance. The act of requesting His help and guidance is a form of worship itself.

When you pray, you should be conversing with God. Sometimes you might do the talking and sometimes you might sit back and listen.

Sometimes you might feel more comfortable sitting down in a nice field and talking to god there. He isn't locked up in his "house". He is right with you when you need him.

I don't actually feel comfortable just repeating the same responses in church sometimes. Too mind numbing. Other times they are a good guide to get started.
