I am a new painter and I'd like to show my work in L.A. I paint on large canvases, but I wasn't sure how many I would need to really make a good show. I was thinking 25 large paintings. Any ideas?

Usually the studio will tell you how many will work based on the size of the place you plan to show, just call and ask around.

It depends on the size of the space you are showing in. Most Los Angeles galleries don't show 25 paintings unless it's ACE gallery. Usually it's 8 to 12 on average if they are all large piece. But if you don't have an MFA, good luck getting into an L.A gallery.

25 big paintings sounds like a lot. Definitely view the gallery space and consider which paintings would look best together in that specific place. You could provide a catalog of other works at the show.

25 sounds good. It probably depends upon how big of an area that you are going to use. The studio should have an idea of what is enough. Hope you sell a bunch...Good Luck.

i can do a show with 19 or 20 pieces, if i'm given a relatively small space, if you have any real space though and display capability of any size, you may not want to go with less than 30 or 40...ofcourse this depends on the size of your works, mine range in size from 10x14 (inches) to 48x72 (inches)...then there are the wall murals, but ofcourse they don't count, they are in a portfolio on the table by me.

It all depends on how big your area is. I think you should first pick out what paintings you want to display and go from there.
