Your braces are silver sweetie, the elastics are the colors you can choose. And there is no extra charge for doing the lower in color or upper in color or even plain. They all cost the same, it's the treatment (the braces and your monthly visit) you and your parents are paying for. The next time you go in, ask to choose your colors before they start to work on you. Even if they put a chain (elastics that connects together) on the bottom they have those in colors too, so you should still be able to choose. The only way you couldn't choose is if they put a ligature wire on the bottom, the long piece of metal that they twist together. You would know if you had it, and you wouldn't have it to start in braces. It just annoys me that this is the only thing you can have fun with while in braces, and then there is an assistant taking it away from you for some reason. Ask the front desk people (they will find out for you and make sure you get them) or her why, next time. Don't forget to take some Advil or Motrin if the pain gets too bad and stick to soft cold things for the next few days! Good luck! Let me know if I can answer anything else for you.

Well, the rubber bands go onto the silver brackets, and then you can change the color. When I had braces, I wanted clear or colored, but they wouldn't give them to me because the clear/colored ones will stain your teeth. Then you will have little yellowish-brown squares on you teeth. What fun! I thought they were kidding since it was only 4 years ago, but other literature supports that.

Maybe the metal brackets adhere better to the glue, and therefore your top teeth are less straight. Good Luck!

They were probably out of colored ones for the bottom, so you got what they had.
