Tell him!

Every plot of the series "3's Company" was based on miscommunication or the lack of communication and how that harms the relationship.

I have a mustache because when I was in the Army and 21 years old a waitress accused me of being a 12-year old. That was two decades ago and I still have the mustache, but I consider it optional equipment now. It has done its job and now days I look old enough to pass as an adult without the mustache.

First find out why he is wearing this chin foliage, and don't laugh he probably thinks it improves his appearance. Then tell him your problems with it and try to come to a decision to either groom it or for you to find a way to live with it.

Any other action will only cause miscommunication and lead you into another "3's Company" episode. If you work behind his back then he won't like it if he finds out about it. If you force him to shave it off in any other fashion he will resent it and you. If you don't get him to modify it then you are going to be miserable. So you both need to talk it out and come to a common conclusion that you both can live with.

A relationship is a series of compromises, you may stay with this boyfriend for a short time or a long time, but you will have other relationships in your life and eventually you will find a life partner. If you want to have a relationship with them then there are going to be problems, even identical twins have occasional relationship problems with each other. If you want the relation to continue then both of you are going to have to communicate with each other, discuss the problem and reach a solution that you both can live with; the inability to do this leads down the road of separation and divorce.

I am sure he doesn't know that you are frightened by his beard and until you do tell him then he will never know, unless he hears a rumor about you going behind his back. If you don't tell him then you won't give him a chance to fix the problem. If you tell him in an insulting manner then you will lose him, but if you don't tell him then you won't be able to stay with him. If you resort to having another person handle your problem then you will have to do that every single time you have a problem in your relationship.

You need to do discuss this in private, as a serious issue, quietly, calmly and honestly. You need to not ridicule him and you need to let him have his say. If you don't do this, then leave him and prepare to be alone for the rest of your life!

Never ask friends to do your own dirty work. He might take it as a joke if they are the ones who ask him to shave it off. I suggest you go and do the asking nicely. Now I have had a beard for the last 25 years and no one could tell me or even ask me to shave it off but every woman I've been with knew I had it before we met and it didn't bother them then. If he's grown it sense you started seeing him he shouldn't have a problem in shaving it off FOR YOU.

Good luck

You mean like a soul patch? Yeah, those are creepy.. and silly. I'd just mention that to him sometime that you don't like it, and not "make him" shave it. He would resent that.
