All of my friends have different ideas about what this compound word means. To me it is one night of fooling around with someone who may or may not be a stranger but not having sex and to some of my friends it means having a one-night stand with sex. What do you think?

I consider it having sex w/ someone,but I have friends who just consider a kiss w/ someone a hook-up,so people really need to go into detail when they use that term!

I think it just means messing around, kissing, touching, but not any form of sex.

A hook-up is when the cable guy from Time-Warner shows up. It does not mean sex. You can "hook-up" with your friends, etc., it means meeting up with.
