Hydrocodone (Vicodin) stays active in your system for about 4 hours. That means that it works for 4 hours or so. But, it can be detected up to 30 days after you last took it. If you are taking the hydrocodone because it was prescribed by a doctor, you can take the prescription and a note from your doctor to your drug testing appointment as proof that you are under a doctor's care and that you are taking a necessary medication and it should not be a problem. Hope this helps!

Jenni C is correct...

Also depending on the sophistication of the drug test they can determine the level of the opiates in in system. If it is significantly higher then what would be expected based on what your doctor prescribed. But 4 tablets in 24 hours or 1q6 or 1 every 6 hours is pretty standard.

So if the medication was prescribed for you you should have no problems. Just bring in your medication (a note from your MD would work too) and let them know BEFORE you take your test. My only concern about your question is that if you're in pain why would you care about having it out of your system? Sorry, none of my business,

Hope it all works out.
