No sweetie, it's not.

It keeps them more content if they are house cats, keeps them from getting into dangerous fights if they are toms, and keeps the population of unwanted kitties down.

Cats don't think about sex, they just follow nature's call. Therefore, it's up to the owner to do what's best for the animal by protecting it from predator cats prowling the neighborhood.

If one purchases a female cat to breed--for better or worse reasons--the cat still needs to be protected from all male cats except the one chosen for the mating.

Male and female cats both need protection, for danger could befall either one. Male cats get into fights, female cats get chewed on and subjected to repeated attacks.

Keeping a cat locked in a house its entire life is cruel and unusual punishment. They need to go out occasionally...they're a creature of nature.

If you think these things are great, perhaps you should not have a cat.

Try the Humane Society for proof of what is written here. Your macho idea is not humane.

God did not creat us to "take care of animals", as mentioned by 1st responder, but to rule over animals, birds and fish...see Genesis 1:26.

It may seem cruel to fix a cat, but there are so many in existence that there is no other way to control the overpopulation. Since they breed a litter of 5 or more, that is way too many to feed, care for and clean up after.

Do them a favor and yourself a favor, fix them early and let them go about their relationships, safely.

Both of mine are, yet they don't seem resentful other than the fact they wake me up at 5 am fighting each other over control of the kitty crunchies. So if you fix them, the only thing left to live for; would be food and sleep. As the case of many people as well, besides the weekends where we get tipsy and start our weekly routine w\ the addition of a hangover.

Yes it is cruel. The Holy Feline Fables say so.

I am the Lord, thy Cat and have brought you out of the Land of Lonliness.
Thou shalt have no other pets before me.
Thou shalt not make for yourself an image, whether in the form of a cat or dog or parakeet or gerbil
Thou shalt not make wrongful use of the name of thy Cat.
Thou shalt not covet thy Cat's claws.
Neither shalt thy remove thy Cat's genitalia or reproductive parts.
Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy Cat.
Remember the sabbath day, for every day is a Cat sabbath and keep it holy

I know what you mean but its much better than having all those homeless cats!

A "fixed" cat can be very happy if its human takes good care of it!

I know.
I know my cat Toto got really pissed when he got fixed.
He hid under the bed for a month. He came out to eat and piss on our clothes when we were out/sleeping.
But- No "whoops" kittens,no fights.

Not really. With guys, we would hate to have our balls snipped because we think they make us who we are and we may want to have children and it seems kind of gay. It makes us a man! But with cats, I severely doubt they think about their balls like that. They don't have symbolism like we do. The only difference is they don't spray when they get neutered. Neutered and big baller cats all act the same if you compare them.

No, it's more humane than letting them suffer prostate and uterine cancer when they're older. Besides, God made it our responsibility to take care of the animals on earth, so that means that spaying and neutering your pets is a good thing. It helps to keep the stray population down.

No we are responsible for keeping the pet population from getting out of hand.
