Crinkly crisps have more surface area than flat crisps and when you dunk them in salad cream they hold more and it doesn't slide off onto your trousers.

A flat chip will break when you dip it, leaving gross little flakes in your dip. A wavy one is designed to be stronger, able to withold a rich dip. Mmmmm chips and dill pickle dip! Yum!! Some non dippers like the thickness of the wavy, some like the thinness of the flat. To each their own!!
