Remember it well, - the awful CVH engine that suffered from head problems quite early in life, the four speed gearbox that was so low geared in first that all you got was masses of wheel spin and wrecked front tyres .
An average XR2 could out drag it in first and still keep going with basically a thirty year old engine and de-tuned at that.
Most of them were written off within a couple of years of age, the rest rotted quietly in garages after insurance companies re-evaluated the groupings and priced a lot of them off the road.
Ford tried to re-coup some of the lost image by releasing the XR3i which was known from the start in the motor trade as a 'Hairdresser's car'.
Now they are becoming quite collectable and because they are not restricted by modern emissions equipment, will show the majority of 'rice boy' cars a clean pair of heels.
Most of the cars that are left now have been looked after properly and will in my opinion outlast their more modern counterparts.

I remember growing up in the 80's and saying my dream car would be an XR3i Cabriolet. I remember in the 90's wanting a Ford Puma but they look naff too. My dream car these days would be a Subaru WRX STi, which I'm sure I'd find really naff in the future!

They don't look naff now just park between a citreon c1 and a nissan micra and it'll look super cool lol.
I remember it well made me feel sick they'd replaced the RS2000 with a slower front wheel drive bland looking car.

I have an XR2i (1.6 EFi, 16v) and I love it. Fun, fast and good-looking.
I'm quite sure I'll crash it and die. Lol!
