I don't count rice as anything but my whole grain, I only eat brown. Um, I don't really think I know anything really interesting about rice. I think the terraced paddies they grow it in are pretty. Oh, I did see a guy at the fair that could paint your name and address on a single grain of rice. You had to have a magnifier to see it. That was neat.

Rice can't count as one of your 5 a day-I mean why would it? it doesn't even resemble a vegetable. It is however very nutritious and contains protein as well as carbs. Brown rice is better because it is a complex carb, whereas anything white is classed as a simple carb. Simple carbs cause your insulin levels to rise rapidy-a bit like a sugar rush. Uncle Ben's brown rice is much nicer than any other kind I've tried, and it cooks in 10 minutes. It's especially nice if you add half a stock cube (chicken or vegetable) to the cooking water. I hope that helps you in your quest for ricely knowledge :)

Rice is great! We were raised on rice (my dad was creole). It doesn't make you put on weight, I think. People always say that brown rice is better for your health, but I don't think it taste that good, so prefer the white one (thai fragrant rice! miam miam! I often ate half a plate of that rice before adding some more for the dish itself! And, no I'm not fat. I'm very slim!). Never had a problem to digest it! Plus, you can make so many recipes with rice, and they aren't necessarily fatty. Plus, it fills up your stomach, so you're not tempted to eat snacks.
Sorry, that's all I can say. I tend to eat rice rather than learn things about it!

Rice is a cereal, and potatoes also fall into this category, presumably for their carbohydrates, despite being vegetables.
Neither count as part of your 5-a-day.

Rice is cereal; the 5 a day should be fruit and veg but apparently potatoes don't count (too starchy?)
