You should brush between cleanings - There are products available at your petstore (I'd never heard of Peanut Butter toothpaste before, but my dogs love it!).
They also have doggie breath mints available - they really help!

If your dogs will chew I would try to get them chewing as much as possible. All of my dogs chew whenever they have a spare moments and their teeth are always clean and their breath smell good. I either give them raw beef bones or nylabones.
Don't use any toothpaste products because it can worsen the odor, I use salt and baking soda to brush 3x a week.
You must either have them chew alot or brush after every meal like you are supposed to do for yourself. Otherwise there is no way to maintain good breath. Also teeth cleaning is important to the physical health of the dog. The dog can get dental disease and get a life threatening infection.
If you are feeding wet food that will make it worse.

First, regularily brushing dog's teeth is a must. Otherwise, their teeth rot just like humans who don't brush. Secondly, as they age their breath will get worse. There are also minty sprays marketed that can mask the odor of dog breath. There is no miracle, but if you keep them clean you will see an improvement.

You can try Greenies or other similar dog teeth cleaners. You can find them at pet stores, big box retailers (Wal-Mart, Target, etc.), or sometimes even grocery stores.
And if they have an area where they frequently poop and also play, you may want to clean it frequently of their poop or pay a pooper scooper to do it for you. A condition called pica (same one that causes some people to eat laundry detergent and dirt) will cause them to eat their own poop, which does wonders for their breath ;-) Pica is not really curable - some dogs just do it. But if that is the case, you can try a product that you add to their food which makes their poop repulsive to them (as if it shouldn't have been already), but be sure to add it to both dogs diets. I forget the name of the product, but you can also find it at pet stores.

There is a wonderful line of products : Oxyfresh. They make a Pet Oral Hygeine Solution. You just add it to your dog's water. It takes care of the breath and helps the health of gums. There is also a gel that you can use on their teeth and gums. We use it for brushing teeth at the grooming shop where I work.

Maybe you should change their food. the food they eat could contribute to build up and things that would make their breath smell. you can also get a doggie toothbrush and toothpaste at the petstore and brush their teeth at your home, by following the directions. then again, doggies aren't supposed to have good breath. they don't get to brush their teeth every day like we do.

They have doggy dental bones at Walmart for cleaning teeth and a dog breath in the pet section, we have 3 German Sheppard's and they love them and their breath smells great. It was suggested from my dog's vet, the cheaper route besides the vet.

There are toys your dogs can chew on at the petstore that can help with breath. It also might be caused by the food you are feeding them.
Check out your local petstore or ask a vet for suggestions.

Consult with your vet! Ask about the mint flavored doggie bones that remove tartar & freshen the breath as well.
