I would stop and try to pick it up. If it wouldn't come to me, I'd immediately call the police and animal control.

I'd see if the dog was friendly when approached. If it is friendly, I'd pick it up and get it to the nearest vet. If you are outside, you can get the dog confined in your back yard and call animal control at your police department.

Most dogs have a "chip" in the back, between the shoulders with the owners name, address, and phone number. The owner may end up being fined!

I would just try not to hit the dog and if it was just sitting or laying in the road i would try to get the dog out of the road so it would not get hit.

In town, look if there is anybody around, and if not get the dog. If in the country, pick the dog up. Check for a collar or tag, if none, take to a vet and have them scan for microchips. If you can't find the owner, try putting out an ad in the paper as a found dog. If nobody answers, and it's really cute...and you want it...keep it. If you don't, find somebody who does want it.

Try and coax the dog into my car and try and find it's owner, by driving around the area. Don't want the dog getting hit by a car. If no owner I take it home and call the hotline for lost animals.

All these answers, with a couple of exceptions, are very good, loving and compassionet. If it has a dog tag/owner listed-get it home if possible and nicely let the owner know it was in severe danger (they will get the hint to tighten up security if they love their pet.)

Wait till it gets to the other side then proceed. Seriously,do not approach it or try to get its attention especially if you don't know the dog. It could attack. Call animal control or the police.

Stop so I wouldn't hit him. If it was a slow residental road, I would pull over and see if there was a tag that had his address on it so I could take him home.
