Despite TellMe's complete ignorance on the subject (you have to be a high school graduate to join the military). I've had family in every branch of the service.

USMC all the way because if you ever decide to leave the USMC and switch to the Army you'll have an easier time getting into the Army than if you left the Army to get into the USMC. Marines generally don't want to leave to go into the Army but if they do they don't have to go to basic. Soldiers wanting to become Marines still have to go through basic and the Marines have THE CRUCIBLE. There are old dogs who ask to rejoin just so they can go through that experience. If you can survive the Crucible then you are a certified harder than steel ****kicker to the Nth degree.

The Marines garner more flat out awe than any branch of the service.

My son is a Army Ranger & he is quite happy with Army life.
Lots of "action" (by the way he is an officer), he loves the target practice & hand to hand stuff plus he stays in great phsical shape trying to get his men to out run him every morning, he is getting his PhD this year compliments of the Army & Uncle Sam, Army has lots of on base extras for his wife & children, & they have made a ton of great friends. Hey, maybe I should go into recruiting - haha

The down side for me is he leaves for Iraq shortly but the Marines are there too. By the way Spencer if the Marines do all the fighting why are the number of soldiers serving in wars & the number killed so much greater in the Army. The Army Rangers lead the way. Hooah!

I can see that you are attracted to that lifestyle, however, you need to know that not everything that you are told about either branch is true. You begin to find that out once you have signed on the dotted line and are in BCT.

Serving in the military is a committment, a vow to defend the U.S.A. with your life, for the rest of your life. No one who makes this vow ever completely loses respect for it. There are those that join for other reasons, but when you take the vow, you are putting your country and this way of life above your own life and even the lives of the people that you will train with.
Do you have the courage to take the vow? Do you have the courage to join the brotherhood (of which a good 45% are female) of veterans, who will be the only ones who will understand you when you get home?

I took the vow in 1982 to a peacetime Army. I am proud to have been counted and trained so that if ever I am needed, I will know what to do. Taking the vow will change your life.

It depends, if you join the marines, you dont exactly get to choose your job. You choose a field (aviation, ordnance, ect.) and then the service assigns you a job based on your ASVAB and the demand for troops in any of the jobs in that field. With the Army, you choose your job. You know exacly what you are signing up for. Army also takes better care of you through out your career.

I was a Navy Wife for almost 10 yrs., We couldn't discuss what he did. He worked with Nukes, it was rough but educational at the same time. My cousin was a Marine, and wow some of the stories he had were better than the movies. The Army excepts most applicants, so I'd pick the Navy. Now go talk to a Recruiter at all 3 branches of the Military, and decide yourself, it's a long haul and your life.
Good Luck!

If you want a challenge and you want to be the best then join the Marines. If you want money for college then join the Army.

I am a Marine who is no longer active; you never stop being a Marine. I love the Corp and remember active duty fondly but I suggest you talk to recruiters from all branches and then determine the best deal for you.

Since you are already willing to serve the USA you have done your part; now see what they will do for you.

I have a friend who fairly recently joined the Coast Guard and got a great deal; exclude no branch.

The USMC! If you are serious this is a branch like no other. There is no other branch that will teach the values & morals as the Corps does. Once a Marine always a Marine, it will never leave you. Semper Fi boot!

Not much difference there. (Sorry, leathernecks and dogs..) It depends on what field you would like to specialize in. If you want training in a highly specialized and high-tech area, look into the Air Force or Navy. The Marines and Army offer these types of jobs but they are somewhat limited in the amount of positions available. If you want to train to work in a security-related field, the Army is a great place to start.
What ever you choose, remember that the nation is grateful to you for volunteering and doing your duty.
