The math applies in music theory, but by no means must one need be good at math to be good as a musician!!!

And smarts aren't the issue either!

Takes ability and talent, drive and practice, and heart and soul!!!

Oh, and of course -- a love of music!!!

There's really no requirement to be a musician, except for motivation to practice your instrument. Being a musician might help you become smarter though, and some say that music helps you do better in math.

Not very. It always helps to be smart, but this is the key. To be a successful performer, all you have to do is have people want to watch you.

In general, the more talent you have, the less intelligence you need. If you're rather average, like most people are, a little intelligence can go a looooooooooong way.

Depends on the genre. Depends on the instrument.

Dedication and the willing to practice for hours per day is the most important skill. Music is very much like math.

Smart enough to know what you want to do. Smart enough to figure out how to find out how to do it. Smart enough to find the right school, teachers, etc. Smart enough to practice. Smart enough to keep on learning. Smart enough to overcome doubts and fears. Smart enough to know whether to continue or not. Smart enough to know who to listen to. Smart enough to believe in yourself. Smart enough to know you're already smart enough.
