Talk to your Orthodontist about the use of a water pik, they are good at removal of foods stuck in the wires, brackets, bands and elastics of ortho. We always advise patients they should use one. That along with brushing a little longer, taking extra care to get the bristles at the right angle to be effective at the gum line. And yes, the worst part of it all, FLOSSING! I know, nobody likes doing it, but once you get used to doing it, you can't stop. It is, I swear it! It's sort of like exercising, if you train or you've known or heard of people who do, then you may know, or have heard them talk about how they go through a withdrawal, or it hurts them to not work out or run when it rains or they can't do it. Well, flossing is like that too, once you get in the habit of flossing you can't stop. Now the metal taste in your mouth you need to bring up at your next appointment. That way they can check to make sure you don't have a band loose that may be leaking. Hope I've been of some help, good luck!
