I have parents that were not trully conserned about underaged drinking. I guess the figured that I could handle myself. They are also recovering alcholics and I come from a long line of addicts. I have very liberal views of drinking where as my huband has very conservitive views. I think that the less of a taboo alcohol is in the house the less likely that children are going to sneak off, get drunk and be stupid, kill someone or get dead (a real chance with drunk driving). He agrees with Dr. Drew from Love Line that the more a child is exposed to alcohol the higher their chances for drinking, future addiction, and drunk driving.
That aside, the number one reason that parents are concerend with underaged drinking is IT IS ILLIEGAL!!!! and it's not the kids that have to deal with the fallout IT'S THE PARENTS!!!!!! the fines and in some states the jail time. Not to mention the legal fees and court cost if "Jr." causes an accident with street racing drunk.
The "age of concent" is not just a random number picked to punish the young. Human brains do not begin to mature until the age of 18 and some people don't think like adults until age 25 and beyond. Certan mental and emotional disorders slow the brains maturity until the mid 30s. Now add a mood and reality altering chemical to a system that is already slow due to lack of experance and it is an accident waiting to happen.
As for the European question, the general drinking age in Europe and the rest of the world is 18, however the laws are lax. Selling alcohol to minors is a misdiminor at best, with a fine of a few Euros. In the US, for decades, public drunkeness was considered funny and acceptable (the only member of the "Rat Pack" that didn't drink was Sammy). In Europe, for centuries, it has been the biggest socal taboo. This causes people to either "learn to hold their liquer" or .... Some think that the gene for alcoholism was bred out of Europe some time ago, or all the drunks fled to the US.

Now that I have board you to tears I hope that I have made a point.

Adults are concerned for the damage drinking does to younger bodies. You have a much higher risk of becoming alcoholics - actually alcohol addicted - when you start drinking at a younger age. Since your bodies and internal organs are still growing, damaging even a small part of them through alcohol use/abuse can lead to severly reduced organ functions when you finally do mature.

I won't even get into the social/psychological ability of young people to handle drunkenness. Especially since many adults are not fit to be allowed near alcohol either. But overall, underage people have a much harder time remainig socially responsible under the affects of a couple of drinks than an adult does. I"ll just leave it at that.

Well... I think they HAVE been underage drinkers in the past, and they remember all the stupid **** they did, and they hope you wont do the same!
What I dont get is they say "NO underage drinking!" which helps nothing because their kids will run off and do it behind there backs very easily. What they should do is talk to them about how to be responsible. Dont ride with drunken people, dont drink so much you die, and dont drink so much you mistake your dresser drawer for the toilet! Although it makes a funny story later. : )

Oh, and dont get chicks knocked up. But then again you dont need to be drunk for that.

The first time I drank, was the first time I got caught and after that everytime I went out on a Friday or Saturday night I would hear them say no drinking...which only made me want to go out and drink more, which is usually what I was doing. When I started college my parents really stressed not drinking to me, which at my school, ASU is basically impossible haha, and I was already into drinking in high school, so I continued to do it. Now my parents know that I drink and try to tell me to limit it to just once a week like at a party on saturday night or something, but the truth is during a normal week, I drink about 4 nights a week. My dad also went to school in Arizona and had told me stories about when he was in college, I actually got some of the ideas for things to do at parties from him, I was really confused why he told me all these things and continuously tells me not to drink.....who knows though!!! So to answer your question, I have no idea!! They should just save their breath.

True That! If the drinking limit were lowered LESS incidents would occur. Allot of alcohol's appeal comes from the fact that it is prohibited, like smoking and illegal drugs. Also if the drinking age were lowered we wouldnt have these idiot kids who turn 21 and think they can go to the bar and down 21 shots in an hour or two. Drinking earlier lets kids find their limit. Look at the European countries, their ages are much lower and they have far less alcohol related problems than the US.

the quantity should be on the cost tag. If that is somewhat a price tag then you definately might want to easily pay it and supplies you up tense. If that is a summons to bypass to court docket then I advise you bypass right down to the police station/county courthouse and communicate over with the clerk there. they could seem you up and fill you in on what you want to do, once you want to take position and each of the relaxing little issues that comprise being interior the criteria of interest of the judicial gadget. bypass in, ask a mess of questions, write the solutions down and whatever do not bypass over your court docket date. good success.

Well I think we should take the European approach. Extremely strict laws against drunk driving and let anyone who wants to drink. They have lower incidence of drunk driving and alcoholism because drinking is not cool, its wine with dinner since you were 5.
