New York City is a great place to go then. Take a walk in Central Park, Visit any of the great museums. Go to dinner in the Village or Chinatown, take a subway ride, walk across the Brooklyn Bridge-on the Brooklyn side, stroll along the Promenade in Brooklyn Heights--enjoy the view of lower Manhattan and the Brooklyn Bridge from there. Stroll through Grand Central Station, get something to nosh at one of the shops--I like cookies from Zaros. Stroll up broadway and people watch. Stop at the Hottix booth for a last minute (and frequently cheaper) theater tickets. Visit Rockefeller Center, watch the skaters at the rink or even go skating yourself---or do it at the skating rink at Central Park even. Stroll through Riverside Park, look out on the Hudson. Or take the subway up to the Cloisters, you don't even have to go into the museum, just walk around Fort Tryon park, enjoy the view of the Hudson. Visit Grant's tomb also on the upper west side. Take the subway to the Battery, look at the Statue of Liberty across the bay from there. Get on the Staten Island Ferry for a very cheap ride across the bay. You don't even have to leave the ferry terminal on the Staten Island end, just wait for the next ferry to go back (little money, great sight seeing and an almost free ride). Take the subway to Coney Island, just to say you went there. Visit the old World Trade Center site and check on the progress of construction of the new Center (and take a moment to remember those who died there). Stroll down fifth avenue and window shop in all the tony stores--Tiffany, Bergdorf, Neimans, Saks, end up at Macy's on 34th, maybe stop in. Have cappuccino al fresco in Little Italy. People watch--NYC is wonderful for just watching people. It doesn't cost much to go tot he top of the Empire State Building (and I don't think its just for tourists either). It has that wonderful outside observation deck...its worth a few bucks to go up there and just gaze out at that immense city. When strolling on the streets, buy roasted chestnuts or hot pretzels from the vendors or even a hot dog--it won't kill you.

The web page referenced below might give you an idea of "historical" and hidden things to see in NYC.

Walk around the crooked narrow streets of the Financial District...you'll see the layout of the oldest part of the city...did you know Broad Street (not Broadway) used to be a canal?
Stop by the Fulton Fish Market--best in the early morning, it stinks but it might be itneresting to see all the fish being sold.

If you are brave visit the Bronx Zoo or look at the vegetable market at Hunts Point.

Head on down to the Village. Always something cool going on down there, and a plethora of interesting stores to hit.
