WWI - Hitler & WWII - Pearl Harbor.
Most important information is that we stayed the course & won.
Pearl Harbor was crippling to our Navy but we did not give up. We found ways to win & the sacrifice expected & received by all Americans was great. History believes that American finally joining the Allies changed the outcome of the war & thus history.
Little known fact is that Henry Ford (yes the car guy) & the Roosevelts funded Hitler at the beginning of the war - they said they did not realize he was crazy.
In WWI, 2.8 million were drafted but 10 times that number joined to protect their way of life.
In WWII, 10 million were drafted & many joined. In 1940, Congress voted to give 2.5 billion dollars for the military. That is a huge amount of money for the 1940s. Even Congress supported our country & not being reelected.

both wars had germans in them. the first war was in 1914 to 1919 and the germans had a leader they called a kaiser that tried to invade others and then everyone got together to stop him and did.
The second war was a a sequel to the first. the germans were having money problems because of war debts and reparations they were forced to agree to when they lost. Then in 1937 or so a new leader (Hitler) got them all riled up and they attempted to get revenge and take back what they lost in WW I. They took back Poland and then invaded another country and nobody stopped them so they just kept on doing it until USA finally got in and stopped them. This was in the early to mid forties. I think we officially got in 1943 at the invasion of Normandy in France where the germans were holed up.
During that time the japanese also were trying to take over Asia and we had tried to stop them so they attacked us at Pearl Harbor in Dec 7, 1941 to chase us off SO we were also at war with them too.

We combined forces with Europe to defeat hitler and the germans and then we concentrated on defeating japan, but with not as much european help as we wanted. they were tired and worn out.
We got desperate and were running out of young men and gasoline so we dropped a new experimental bomb on Japan to force them to quit at last. they finally did and the war was over.
the bomb was the A-bomb and scared hell out of the whole world and we have all been scared ever since.

Hitler was in the German Army in WWI, He started WWII. Pearl Harbor got the US in WWII three years after it started. We won both of those wars. We rebuilt the losers after WWII.

Hitler was a young soldier in WW1 fighting for germany who were ruled by the Kaiser. It started because of and assainanation of an Austrian diplomat ( at least i think he was austrian ). Germany then alongside austria and hungary attacked europe. During this war Britain invented the tank and airforce was used for the first time in modern warfare, firstly as spy and map information then later as fighters ( they threw grenades off the side and mounted machine guns. ) No hand held machine guns were used but there were fixed machine guns. The war was fought in trench warfare with the biggest and most famous battle being The Somme. This battle was horrendus and hundreds of thousands died. The tactics used were basically to send wave after wave of men towards the enemy trench until they ran out of bullets. Finally British and French troops broke through enemy lines and claimed victory but with a huge loss of life. DONT LET ANYONE TELL YOU THIS WASNT THE BIGGEST BATTLE OF WW1 because it didnt involve the US. The US joined in 1917 at the very very end of the war. Alongside the British and French they forced Germany into and armistice on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, hence why people take a moments silence every year on this date and time.

WW2 was started by Japan invading China as Japan wanted its own empire. The main theatre of war didnt start until 1937 when germany invaded poland. In 1939 Britain Joined the war bringing Germany its first major power as a military enemy. France had been occupied after a quite pathetic attemp was crushed by superior German might. Germany through the Nazi party convinced german people the needed to go to war to protect there country when attempting to get power. It won by a huge majority and started it extermination of the jews. In Britains first attemps of an offensive went badly wrong and there exibitonary force was well beaten by the germans forcing them to retreat to dunkirk where they were evacuated by a massive Royal Navy contingency. Britain also failed in many other earlier battles. The first and most important turning point was the Battle of Britain ( 9 July to 31 October 1940 ) which was the first battle fought completely in the air. Britain won against a stronger german airforce and set Germany on the back foot for the first time in the war. Germany would not recover. In 1941 ( december ) Pearl habour was attacked by Japanese airplanes bringing the US into the war. The allies had been asking the US to join the war for years prior to this but the US refused saying it doesnt want to get involved in a war in europe again. This was the 2nd major turning point against Germany. Germany did enjoy early success though as did japan against the americans but both were on the defensive soon. In 1944 the D-Day landings took place involving the US the British, Canadian and smaller amounts of other nations ( again US histroy likes to think only the US took part in these ) The RAF was the main airforce involved as was the Royal Navy ( about 80% of planes and ships were british ). After hard fighting German lines were broken through ( partly due to Parachute forces being used behind enemy lines to halt support getting to the germans. ) Britain France and the US then went on to Berlin over the next year.

On the other fronts Russia were fighting the Eastern front, Britain the US, australia, India wer fighting the Japanese ( again US history books forget the others and remember only the US ).

The war in Europe ended when Russia got to Berlin followed by the British, US and other allies. The war in East Asia ended when the US dropped A-Bombs on Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Germany invented Rockets and large land guns capable of firing to Britain.
Briatin invented Radar and Sonar as well as the most used machine gun. The SAS also began life during this war.
US invented the A-Bomb.
Russia was able to produce equipment fast and cheaply that even though germany had better equipment the sheer numbers were to much for them.
