Hold Your Wee for a Wii. Ridiculous. Have you heard the phone calls? She complained of a headache and that she felt funny. A caller claiming to be nurse said she needed to stop what she was doing as it would eventually harm her. It is a reminder of the poor kid at Chico State in California. Instead of being rushed by the Greek system with beer, they used water...and it killed him. People need to understand that too much of ANYTHING is risky business.

Hyponatremia is no joke. It'll kill you. I read about that and the whole thing was insane. Many runners and other athletes can suffer the same thing.

I suppose I should edit and put in that hyponatremia is about electrolyte imbalance (particularly, in this case: sodium) and will kill you. Any imbalance, like hypo- or hyperkalemia (low or high, respectively, potassium which helps the heart) can kill if things go too far one way or another... one of the reasons nurses, EMTs are IV "happy" when they declare you (via blood tests and your signs/symptoms) dehydrated. DOCs make the final call on starting IVs and dehydration btw... nurses can't diagnose, EMTs do it in the field under doc supervision/medical direction.

How do you feel about the water intoxication death?

SADDENED.

Particularly at the STUPIDITY of the Station Staff!

I hope some jail terms follow the investigation.

Obviously, this young woman knew nothing of the dangers regarding water intoxification as did the radio station promoters. One of the contestant that dropped out after consuming enough water to feel uncomfortable reported thast this friendly, young mom was "doing it" for the kids. Another blatantly tragic sign of this cultures need for instant satisfaction by needing to accumulate "things". We need to start placing value on "people" and how we can live without all the useless "stuff". God Bless her children and family!

The more I hear about it the worse it sounds. I guess someone called in and warned the DJ's that it could be life-threatening and they made a comment that the contestants signed release forms so it's ok. I hope the people that ran the contest are held responsible - they should be tried for manslaughter.

The radio station should have researched the risks associated with drinking large amounts of water before creating the competition.

I didn't know that drinking so much water could kill you. It is so sad. I am upset the station didn't stop the contest when they heard it could be dangerous. I honestly don't understand the lengths people will go to for ratings. People are so much more precious than any kind of entertainment.

May God Bless you.

I was surprised to hear about it, I did not realize you can die from an H2O overdose!!

It was disappointting to hear that the radio station staff DID have knowledge of such happenings, and in fact the DJs discussed such a thing 'on air'. That surely demonstrates neglegence on behalf of the station.

It's disgusting.

We live in a culture where doing stupid dangerous stunts has become acceptable behaviour. The Jackass and imitators mentality. I don't know how we reached this point in cultural depravity.....in one of the most religious and god-believing countries in the world.

connection?

It was a sad unnecessary display of blatant ignorance and arrogance.

No doubt that someone will pay monetarily for that, but no one will pay as much as those poor kids.
