you could get them anything towards a house they just start collecting stuff in hteir bottom drawer!
One of my best presents was a slow cooker!
However now i am married with 4 kids what i'd do for a day at a spa with my husband , you could pay for them to have a pamper day together. Or take them to london fro High tea at the savoy! Or Chinatown for a chinese and a theatre trip after! Where do you live? Things that you keep for ever are nice, but memories of a wonderful time always stay with you!

Do they have any hobbies? Do they like the outdoors, go camping, ski, etc. You could get them a romantic getaway. A cabin nearby, or a lakehouse. Something for just the two of them. It's nice that a son's mother is so excited about his engagement.

Christmas decorations...I know it sounds silly but your first Christmas always costs a fortune to decorate your house. They are also something that will be used over and over again ...can be used in whatever house they get and hopefully will get passed down from generation to generation...I know I have a couple that my Great Grandmother put on her tree. My Mom gave them to me when I got married and was going to have a tree of my own. I love them and think of all the history every time I decorate with them.
Good luck...remember that whatever else you give them your love and support will always be the greatest gift.

Give them a party.
So they can get the cash gifts.
They will need the money to buy a house some day.
My mother-in-law gave us crystal candle holders. I use them about 3 times a year, but I always think of her when I do.

You could buy them anything you think is personal to them. You know your son better than anyone so have a think about his personality and his fiancee's and work with that. Maybe get them each gifts like jewellrey or something engraved that is personal to them

Someone answered "luggage." That's a fabulous idea, and they will probably use it for many many years. Do you knit or crochet? I got tons of gorgeous gifts at my engagement party, and I loved them all, but the most special gift I received was a blanket my grandmother knitted for me. She is blind, so she doesn't go to stores much, and I know she spent so many hours making it for us. I think of her every time we curl up with it on the couch.

He's your son, surely you should know his tastes better than anyone. It would be better to think of your own gift seeing as all the answers given before are not what you are looking for, perhaps you need to get your thinking cap on and think of a gift yourself.

i think a book that allows them to plan and record their wedding is nice. it is something they will have forever and you can buy very expensive or cheaper ones too depending on your budget. the nice ones are made with silk and padded covers and the cheaper ones are normal hard back. i can't think of their actual names but i'm sure any well equipped wedding site would stock them. they have room for photos, keepsakes and lists and dates they did things like booking honey moon, buying the dress, etc etc. just a thought
