It is hard to say if Mom needs to go to the hospital or not and get stitches.
Hold the finger for approximately 15 minutes to stop the bleeding. . . . it was told to me by one of the plastic surgeons I worked with that anything less than 15minutes or letting up before 15minutes and you have to start over again.
Gently clean it up after it has stopped bleeding but watch the scrubbing as it can start up the bleeding again.
I really doubt that a tendon or and artery was severed so I would think that a butterfly bandage,a steri-strip,a good piece of tape and perhaps a bandaid would work if placed on the wound correctly.
Using something like Neosporin ointment will help the healing but if Mom notices something not quite right during the time it takes to heal this cut,she needs to see the Dr. to rule out infection.

First of all, why would you even come on here to ask a question for something that serious LOL ROFL.
But to answer your question You need 1st rinse the wound extremely well to flush out any dirt or dibree that can lead to infection, then 2nd use a Non stick bandage if you have one, if not then use a face cloth white is better because it has no dye which can lead to infection and hold pressure on the cut and get to the emergency room so they can take a better look at it. You could have cut a tendon and it might need surgery.

On wounds that deep and serious they will stitch the wound.

If it went to the bone your mom needs stitches done by a doctor. A butterfly closure or bandaid isn't going to work well. If you wait too long though they won't be able to stitch it. I had a cut that went half that deep but didn't go to the doctor until the next day. They wanted to stitch it but couldn't because 17 hours had already gone by so the skin had already started healing. They would have had to recut me to stitch me.

I'd seriously go to the doctor. Something that deep is an infection waiting to happen.

Wow, that's pretty bad if it went to the bone. She really needs to be seen by a doctor to get this cleaned up and stitched up properly. I wouldn't just put a band-aid on it.

She needs STITCHES ... but you can only get 'stitches' put in within four hours of the injury. NO MATTER HOW LONG IT HAS BEEN, though, you should take her to the doctor or to an emergency room ... any cut that goes 'to the bone' is SERIOUS and needs GOOD MEDICAL ATTENTION.

If you dont get that treate be sure to expect one heck of a scar. I implore you and your mom to go to the hospital, get cleaned up, and stitched immediately. You never know what she can catch with an open cut specially one as deep as her. It must of pierced through the muscle! Who knows if what she cut herself with had some sort of viral anything. Good Luck!

Guess that depends on how tough your mom is...lol. If she is loosing alot of blood...she probably needs a stitch or two. If your that concerned...why are you on here asking...take her to get it stitched.

If you're sure it went to the bone, get it checked by a doctor immediately - there may be tendon damage. Bandaid is good to keep it clean - but get it checked pronto.

Get to the hospital and get stitches ASAP. It is very prone to infection (and painful!).

She probably needs real stiches, and it probably needs cleaning out. However, I have treated myself for such with just bandages and Neosporin. It'll just take longer for it to heal.
