I throw a lot of parties, so i was wondering if anyone had any idea on anything out there that is cheap, reusable, and durable. Thank you for your answers. P.S. person with best answer is invited...hehe.

Lowes or Home Depot has a plastic that is made for this. It is slightly sticky on one side so your guests won't slip but it still protects the carpets. It's perfect for parties or when you are moving in/out of your house. Have fun.

You must have sloppy parties or sloppy guests. I guess giant room size rugs are out of the question now......even cheap ones would be too expensive. Canvas can be put down, but you have to secure it well and then people still manage to drag their feet and trip. Nice thing about canvas is you can have friends paint on it........not at the party, but some other time, out on concrete. Let it dry and roll up.

Probably best is to minimize damage by getting people to remove their shoes before entering, not serving staining foods like chocolate fondue and red wine, no sloppy foods, etc. And then clean your carpets soon after the party.

Carpets don't mix well with people/food/drinks/pets.

You will want to be careful when placing throw rugs and tarps down to protect the carpet, people mingling around, especially when "feeling no pain" can easily get their feet caught up in whatever is on the carpet and causing them to fall. If you really want to place something on the carpet, think about getting a painters tarp, they are large enough to cover an entire room, be sure to secure edges with heavily weighted furniture. Use painters tape to tape down edges in doorways to prevent someone from tripping

Go to a local harware store like Home Depot and buy some of that cheap commerical type carpet they sell off the roll then lay it over the top of your existing carpet. A carpet store that sells remnants (left over pieces) might have a size big enough to cover your carpet too. Good luck !

Best bet is just to roll plastic over it. It may look dorky, but hey, if people stop making a mess you won't have to use it!
