Coral is not a plant, it is made up of millions of living organisms... The only plants are kelps...

I'm not sure what you're asking. Most plants have a set of conditions that are desirable to that particular plant, such as temperature of the water, amount of light and availability of nutrients. So different plants would be better suited to different parts of the reef.
