First, you'll need to research your allergen. Know every name it goes by and where its likely to hide. Avoid any place that is high risk for said allergens.

Second, you're never going to guarantee 100% that you're going to be able to avoid that allergen for the rest of your life. So you'll need to have precautions set up.

1. Get an allergy alert bracelet or necklace detailing your allergens.

2. Get an Epi-Pen or two. You'll need to carry this with you at all times.

3. Keep liquid Benadryl handy in your medicine cabinet. If your throat starts closing up, you may be able to get a little liquid benadryl in before it closes completely. This will give you a better chance of recovery.

4. Talk and caution those who will be around you often. Such as good friends, family, your boss. Let each of them know what emergency procedures should be used and what to expect. If you have several hard to manage allergies, get one or two reliable emergency contact volunteers of your family or friends and educate them in detail, then make sure everyone knows who to call in case of emergency. You'll want someone educated to help advocate for you in the hospital, should you end up unconscious for awhile. (Medical staff are not always up to date on every allergy and what all it entails)
