I just got it for Christmas & had only used it twice before this started.

It will let me take 1 picture, then it freezes; the lens stays out, light goes off & it wont let me shut the camera off.

I have to remove the batteries & put them back in, when it does come back on, the first pic i try to take makes it freeze again.

The batteries are not dead! What can be the problem???!!!

PLEASE HELP! THANKS!

Most likely, you camera needs to be repaired by an authorized service center. But since you've only recently received it, you may be able to return it to the place of purchase - ask the person who gave you the camera if he/she has the receipt.

Since the light stays on temporally, I doubt it's the batteries. Also you can see the amount of battery charge on the screen when you first start the camera up.

The only other external fix is the media card that the camera is writing the picture to. It could be the media card is bad / incompatible with the camera or the card might already be full or the card is too small for the size picture you are trying to take. You can try taking the card out and reinserting it to make sure it seated correctly.

You can try swapping out the media card for another card and see if that works. If so then the media card is bad.

If the above does not fix it then I would recommend returning the camera (preferable for another model or brand).

Hope this helps you out.
