If I were to upgrade to Office 2007 from Office XP, will 2007 still read the XP Word, PowerPoint, and Excel files?

Office 2007 files will be in XML and cannot be read by earlier editions. However, MS is releasing a patch for previous Office programs to enable them to read these files. I understand it may be available soon at Windows Update.

If you are upgrading to a newer version of Office, yes it will be able to read files made with older Office programs, but on the flip-side files made with 2007 may not be able to be ready by older programs like 2003. Hope this helps, Brodster

I am pretty sure it will be - in theory as long as the .doc filename is maintained there will backwards compatible - on older versions you might find that it will save to an Office 2007 version of the file when you first save an older format file.
