i understand that the black people that go to church are just as likely to be christains as people in other churches.
i dont understand why the leader of the services is almost certainly going to yell . i have watched a number of different services on tv that have a black congregation and each one is the same the leader yells and the people all jump around and yell out amen and wave there arms about. how did this develop.
was this something that relates back to african tribes or something . i know many pagan rituales are incorparated into modern religion modifed but there roots are pagan. so this is why i wonder is this an african thing . there is one show on tv in which this leader is very fat and he is yelling in a fast paced repeative manner that does not really allow him to even catch his breath .
this man sweats so much he really looks like he will drop dead .
what makes them behave so differently . most other churches are places of reverance and not a place to yell

i just wanted to know the roots of this style and to understand more about it
for the woman who said my question is racist calm down . not every question asked by a white man regarding a black
person or a black commmunity is racist.
be willing to accept whites as i am willing to accept you please

I was the pastor of two black churches as my first parishes. I didn't yell.
The yelling you speak of is a pattern of some of the early (slave days) Baptist and Pentacostal churches. When slavery ended the black churches just followed the pattern...with embellishments.

Black churches have a rich history full of music, praise dance and emotional sermons. Think of our Christian history. We relied on Jesus and the word of God to bring us through slavery, Jim Crow, Civil Rights, poverty, etc. Our services are very charismatic. Granted, some people may do it for show, but it's really just our style of worship for a God that has delivered us from so much. Hey, we truly enjoy our services and we interact with our preachers. Not all ministers yell. You will find that varies largely among different denominations and even congregations. Also, remember that the most entertaining ministers are the ones that get on TV, so don't use that as a measuring stick.
Read Psalm 150. It tells us to praise him with our voices and instruments. "Let everything that hath breath, praise ye the Lord." We are very reverent. Ever seen a Black church go into prayer or Praise & Worship? It's a thing to behold. We use everything we have to praise Him. He wants to hear our praise. Don't be afraid to express it.
As a child I was a member of a Catholic church, so I've seen many different types of worship. I'm a member of a different church and I prefer the way I worship now...what you call yelling.
Visit a Black church in person and take advantage of what they have to offer. Different doesn't mean bad.

I am not black yet attended a black college- Black culture today absolutely has roots in tribal customs from Africa. You may even look up the Gullah peoples of the US as they are on a remote island and the culture has stayed there very strong without the dilution that happens when infiltrated into mainstream American culture(s).
Regarding revernce and yelling: this is poerfectly fine as it does not matter to God how you come to church... he just wants you to be there and hear His Word. There by the way is a Psalm that states to shout and sing with joy and even clang the cymbals. There are many churchs that are so stoic and people worrying that they must act and look a certain way, they miss the point of God. How sad.

Depends on the "white church" you go to, I guess. You'd probably be shocked by some of the white religious leaders in the deep south and along the Appalachians. Especially the "snake handlers," whatever those guys call themselves. And your question is based on racial stereotypes. I guess a black person could turn it around and ask something like, "Why don't white churches preach or worship with any passion? Are white people inherently boring or do they just not feel the love of God?" Either question would be unfair, and not accurately reflecting reality.

I am a black member of a "black church" and I don't get it myself. Many black and white Baptists preach and have church this way. I have felt uncomfortable with this my whole life. Some people genuinely love God and are very grateful to him and that's why they shout. On the other hand some just do it out of tradition I guess. I wish we could just have church without all the yelling but to each his own.

OH my goodness i understand what your talking about .... that gets on my nerves !!!!!!!!!!!! Well i go to a Baptist Church ... my sister doesn't she goes to a nondenominational and shes always talking about how they only scream in Baptist churches and i think shes right ... i went to her church and the pastor never screamed once. But i think the reason most Baptist churches do that is because its like an old tradition were the preacher would get all crazy and loud then people will be oh thank ya lord ...and start running around and pretending to have the holy ghost.... its just old traditions that never die.... you don't have to disrupt the whole service when you get the holy ghost

lol aww. i ask the same thing sometimes. im black and i hate church but when my parents force me to go i observe the behavior. black churches began when african americans had no rights so the church became not only a religious gathering but one of social and political significance. look it up. but yeah i guess its just a different way of worshipping. i dont like church in general but i do prefer african american churches over white catholic services (i go to catholic school) it seems as though in catholic church the ppl are bound by tradition and its very boring in my opinion. in black churches the music is better..they yell because some of them actually get into the service. ive seen ppl speak in tongue or "fall out"..its kind of funny. but its just another culture. good question!!!

I think you are talking about Bishop TD Jakes. He is awesome. You should listen to the message and not worry about the volume at which he is saying it. He is a very intelligent man of God with a great gift of interpretation. He inspires his congregation and they do get very enthusiastic. Yes he and others in the black community shout in church but we are in a society that sometimes needs a good shouting to wake people up!!! I wish my church was that exciting.

every chruch worships differently. Here are some whit pastors whom yell and jump and speak in tongues which is unecessary: Dennis Leonard, Paula White, Rod Parsley, and countless other white ministers whom yell and over exaggerate the holy ghost feeling. i attend Lakewood chruch and we don't do all that fake stuff. To me its fake so at home u can say oh they really have the holy spirit moving in that church. Nope it don't mean they are more holy or saved its smoke and mirrors to stir the pot. But as long as you get one soul saved from sin you did your job. That is the whole perspective to get you saved and excepting the bloods of Jesus and sin no more and spread the gospel and study your bible and etc. But ppl think u are holy cus u go to chruch every sunday .not true at all the building nor the minister nor the choir can save u

The bible says jump for joy. sing. They are merely following holy commands. Psalm 100:2 says Come before him with joyful songs. Joyful songs are lively songs, expressive songs. James 5:13 says "Is anyone happy, let him sing." Now you really have to think about what kind of songs you would sing if you were really happy. Sad sombre songs or joyful, energetic and lively songs. Isiah 49 says "Burst into song O mountains. Burst tells you how we should sing. Can you burst into a sad song? God bless you my friend.
