I have some kittens I been taking care of for my mom for about 2 weeks. There is 6 of them and I have 2 cats of my own inside. Well they got sick and have been sick for a while, they have clogged noses, they have been sneezing alot. Well I noticed yesterday 2 of the kittens were having nose bleeds. It's pure red blood and sometimes quite a bit comes out. I don't understand why it's doing this. Could it just be from the sickness? It has me really worried. I wiped the one kittens nose off last night and he blowed his nose into the toilet paper and then blood came out! He also acts like it's really sore. What could this be? I also been giving them some penicillin antibiotics that my vet said to give them. I plan on calling the vet tomorrow since they weren't open today. Thank you!

This sounds like a serious respiratory infection. You need to get them to the vet right away. Just like humans can get bloody noses when they have a cold or flu, so can cats. However since they are young kittens, blood loss becomes a real concern, as well as the cause of it. So please get them some medical care ASAP.

It sounds exactly like a herpes virus. (Yes, cats have their very own version of herpes!) I would be VERY cautious about your 2 cat (make absoultely certain all their vaccines are up to date. (Always segregate new pets from previous pets for at least two weeks, during these two weeks moniter closely for any sign of health abnormalites - take them to the vet for an overall health check and be sure to mention anything unusual).

At any rate, herpes is by no means a death sentence, but it is something they will have for the rest of their lives. The kittens will definately need a good antibiotic (mommy too!), and they may need to go on iv steriods to pull them through their breakout. Once they recover they will need the best of care - with a healty diet and a stress free home they may all possibly thrive and never flare up again. (Stress is the most common cause of flare-ups.) They will always have a slightly comprimised immune system. They will be fine with other cats as long as the other cats are up to date on vaccines (however, I would suggest segregating in the event of a flare-up).

Most importantly, make certain all the kittens are hydrated. You can test this easily by pinching the skin on their backs, between the shoulder blades. The skin should flatten right back out as it was before you pinched it - if it goes back down slowly or not at all you have a dehydrated kitten. If that is the case you need to seek vet help immediately - their lives will be severely at risk.

Also, don't fret about their clogged noses - they can still breath from their mouthes.

Get them examined immediatly!

Bleeding from any orifice is serious. You need to take the cat to the vet now,and your cousin needs a good spanking. A 9 year old child should know better than to throw a kitten!

I wouldn't wait til tomorrow. I would take them to an emergency clinic for animals or at least look in the phone book for a vet that has an emergency number.

!!!!!!
I would worry about the antibiotics. In humans it can cause a lot of problems with bleeding. Your white cells can be affected.

I would take them in to the vet "right away" to check for internal bleeding.
