Can anyone give me some scripture based verification of this notion?

Some pretty good answers here, but let me rephrase.

After one has become saved, if he or she continues to live a worldly life, what happens to his or her salvation?

Please... Answers like read the bible aren't really what I am looking for, although that is always helpful, please be a bit more specific... I.e. Book, Chapter and Verse. Let's have some healthy and insightful dialog.

MORE ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

JohnC, believe me... the last thing I want is for someone to "parot" my views. It's just that I hear that said so often. What I would honestly like to see, and what I was hoping for here was to have someone who believes that to explain why they believe it. Who knows, it might even get some folks to read the Word, understand what it says about how we are to live as Christians, and... here's the tricky part, live that way...

Many "Christians" say that because it gives them a sense of security while they continue to live a carnal life. It is not a scriptural concept. I think that those that live that way are in for a rude awakening on the day of judgement.... Depart from Me... I never knew you!!! Ouch!!!

God expects us to live our lives in a constant state of repentance...

The bible does not teach that. It does teach that you can fall.

John 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him. If you continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed.

The above verse spoken by Jesus suggests that if you keep his word you are his disciples, if not then it is obvious that you can cease to be his disciple.

Acts chapter 8: 12-24 is an example of one who accepted Christ but allowed sin to cause him to lose his salvation.

1 Corinthians 10:12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

If once saved always saved why did Paul say take heed lest ye fall?

Galatians 5:4 Christ is become of no effect unto you , whosoever of you are justified by the law: ye have fallen from grace.

The Galatians went from serving Christ to keeping the Old testament law and Paul said they had fallen from grace.

Jude23,24
Revelation 22:19

These are just a few scripture among many that refute the once saved always saved doctrine. That is something man came up with and has no justification from scripture.

It is biblical. Read the Bible.

Edit* "After one has become saved, if he or she continues to live a worldly life, what happens to his or her salvation?"

I submit to you that they were never saved to begin with. Becoming saved involves 2 parts. A believer acknowledging God and God responding by sending the Holy Spirit. Salvation is a free gift and cannot be earned nor lost. God knows whom He has chosen. God advises us not to "cast pearls before swine," why would He turn around and do the same thing? He doesn't, He won't, and He is not a liar. Why would God save someone by sending His Holy Spirit to them and revealing truth even though He already knows they will reject Him. That makes no sense. It does not happen. I don't know why people don't understand salvation, but I have my suspicions.

I have learned after answering this question as often as I have that it is useless to waste my time quoting scripture on the topic of eternal security as God either reveals this fact to you or He doesn't. It is that simple.

If you would like to follow up with me and you honestly have a question about this topic and you are not just looking for someone to parrot your views, I would gladly respond more in depth.

That depends on what you are asking.

If you are asking whether or not something or someone can steal your salvation then the answer is no:

Romans 8:38-39 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

If you are asking whether you can reject your salvation after being given it then the answer is: possibly. The bible doesn't address the issue though because, frankly, why would you want to?

If your answer to that is that you no longer believe then surely you don't believe there's a salvation to 'lose'.

keep in mind, there are approx 2 billion Christians. 1.2 Billion of them are Catholic. When was the last time you heard a Catholic say anything about being saved? If they are not Catholic, then you can throw it all in with the rest of the people who strayed from Christianity to do things their own way. Im not Christian myself, but for obvious reasons, I dont recognize anyone but Catholics as Christians. A Baptist Church for example is like me saying "I dont like all the laws in Texas! Im going to start my own state and change the laws that I dont want to follow!" Whats funny is, Catholic Faith is more forgiving and understanding of human nature than any other denomination of Christianity. Just another funny fact in our crazy world.

Reading some of the answers I wanted to say.

Christianity is not about works, it's about faith.

your works are like dirty rags in the eyes of God. Your works will always fall short. Thus the reason Jesus died. Your sins have been paid for in full. You have to nothing!!! All you have to have is faith.

I would say, as long as you have faith you're fine. I like to look at David. His faith was never in question and look at some of the things he did!

I hope this helps.
