According to them, if it is their mistake and you end up owing tax and are assessed interest and penalties, they are supposed to cover it (the interest and penalties). If it is their mistake and you should have gotten a larger refund, they are supposed to do an amended return for free.

They would pay any interst & penalties. You still pay the tax since that is your responsibility.

Why would you go to the stupidest people in the world to do your taxes? They don't a a clue as to what they are doing and don't know tax law. We had to take a tax course to prepare taxes in CA. We did the H&R Block thing. We knew more than the teacher. They even fized the final so that people who actually failed the test "passed" so that they could work for them.

NEVER GO TO H&R BLOCK!

What happens when H & R block don't send in an injured spouse form & you wind up losing your entire tax refund because of their incompetent preparers? Now I had to send the documents to the Irs & state now they are saying it can take 14 weeks to fix something I should have had 2 weeks ago. I wrote to their DM & still haven't heard back from them since. So disgusted.

I paid $300 to prepare my taxes thru H and R block and I received a letter saying that I potentially owe $3500. I am upset. Why did I pay $300....

Their standard guarantee says that if they make an error, they'll pay any interest and penalties that result from their error. You'd still pay the extra taxes due.

If the error is made because you did not give them some required information, then it's your responsibility.

They'll have to fix it unless it is because you omitted information. I would just do your taxes yourself. The HR Block people usually suck.

Good luck!

Their mistake is costing me $5,500. Sure they say they'll pay the fines & interest-----but I'm still stuck with a huge bill thanks to their stupidity! Does that seem fair?
